Its our fault!

Have you actually paid attention to where all the pollution of our oceans comes from? A VERY small percentage (something like 5%) of it comes from the US. I have been on flooded rivers here in Texas and saw the trash floating downstream. While it makes me sad that so many Americans allow this to happen, it is still just a drop in the bucket compared to India, Africa, and eastern Asia who make up the most of the river pollution. If you want to influence someone talk to people in those continents...they are the problem. I seriously doubt they will listen since many of them are simply trying to SURVIVE and wondering if they have enough to eat tonight! Most of them could care less about what the oceans will look like in 25 years. As a reefer this seriously sucks but be careful where you direct your energy. Raising ANOTHER tax here in the US will not make any difference and just make another politician even richer.

One small thing that you are overlooking, the waste is shipped on low cost trap steamers which often do not make it to port to off load the toxic cargo. Look it up globally at least 1 ship a day sinks somewhere.

The ships are worth more as an insurance claim than they are delivering their trash cargo.

As I have been saying the issue is Global but I have yet to see any Global solutions for you.

Always amazing to me how few facts are stated in these discussions rather they repeat things that they think they heard somewhere. Seems people are more interested in scoring points than actually listening to each other.

Lets be realistic, in my 35 years of Military Service I was involved in no less than 7 different conflicts from Vietnam to Afghanistan including covert operations in 130 different countries. During that time we used tens of Billions of gallons of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, we fired Billions of rounds of ammunition, artillery shells, dropped millions of tons of bombs, spread Depleted Uranium all over the middle east, left death, destruction and more waste than anyone can possibly imagine everywhere we went.

Plastic waste? Do you or anyone else really believe that other countries really worry about local or for that matter global pollution? Recycling is a wonderful idea but in reality it is a joke. People say "we have to do something" all the while ignoring the issue of global jihad, terrorism, poverty and that the U.S. is in a permanent state of war.

The reality is that there is nothing that any individual or group can do to make any real difference, vote for this person or party to your hearts content, what effect will your vote have on some poor slob in Africa, rural China, Indonesia or a hundred other places you could name? Think you or anyone else will stop the U.S. (global) Military Industrial Complex from waging war on anyone and everyone they can in order to make a profit?

War Is A Racket

WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

Take a look at Hockey Stick the Polar Bears are going to be extinct AL Gore. Jetting around in his private jet, living in a 10,000 square foot mansion, all the while decrying what you (and I) should do to stop global warming.

It is all Bravo Sierra.

Yes I agree the world as we know it has a problem but what if anything are you really going to accomplish but not using plastic straws, or recycling which as I said is a joke?

Great book!

Fixing the pollution issue is bigger than any one person, group or country, it is a global issue. The problem is simply who is going to pay for the clean-up and prevention for the future and how will it be enforced?

Are you willing to go to War to enforce a global solution? What is the global solution?

I do not have the answers, do you?

I know one thing. I do my part, by doing very simple little things, and by caring just a little bit. I don't do it because it makes me feel good, I do it because it is the right thing to do. For the same reason I don't throw my old clothes away, I donate them, just like I donate money monthly to good causes who are trying to make a difference. What I don't do is sit at home doing nothing, complaining about 'liberals' or 'snowflakes' or people that need a 'safe space,' nor do I change my font color to make myself feel like I am more important or that I have a voice, tell other people they are wrong and I don't belittle people who have a different opinion than I do, and I certainly don't link or promote Fox News. I cannot fathom how someone's attitude sucks so much they can throw a glass bottle into the garbage and not even give it a second thought. That is completely foreign to me.

:)

I am trying to make a difference. Send me money. You will feel great about yourself.

It sounds stupid for me to post that but so many causes run on that premise. It is so easy to make money off of people that care. Save the whales, Save the children, cancer, heart disease, etc., etc,...

Honestly it's great to care about stuff. Find a local cause to join. Give your time and effort at a local level where it matters. We do the local animal shelter. If I donate dog food I am sure no one is taking it home to build a mansion.

I throw all my glass bottles in the trash, I take 45 minute showers even though CA is in a drought, I burn wood in my fire place on non-burn days when I’m cold, I dump my saltwater in the toilet, I love God.

We very rarely buy bottled water. I have my RODI branched off at the RO and feeding to pressure tanks in our fridge. Taste like bottled water or better. We do use plastic bags cause I hate those cloth ones. Probably 3-5 aluminum cans a week. I drive a truck that gets 15 MPG (cause I need one and I like the extra room), and I am a pilot, so I'm either burning leaded fuel at 20 GPH, or soon to be, Jet-A at 400-1500 GPH. I would never even consider throwing anything out the window of my vehicle, and cant stand littering. I think we should be good stewards of the environment, but I'm not going to sweat in my own home, or drive some tiny car. I also don't believe anything said by anyone who claims to speak on climate change or environmental concerns with any authority. Literally when I was in high school I remember Al Gore saying the polar ice caps would be completely melted by the summer of 2013, but by 2015 NASA was saying the ice caps were actually growing....Everyone and I mean everyone who is fire and brimstone about climate change is in it to make money. I also don't think that gas companies should be able to flare methane 24 hours a day. Common sense and reasonable measures...It's the people on the far ends that unfortunately make the most noise and push to set policies. The rest of the world is just busy paying their bills and spending time with their families.

Cessna's, Cherokees and my buddy has a Bonanza, although my dream plane is either a Baron or if I make it really big, a King Air. I'm going to probably be flying commercially by the end of the year. So that is why the other statement. (I wish I could afford 400 GPH fuel burns.) LOL

That’s awesome man, I always wanted to be a pilot but now I’m stuck in an ambulance. LOL. Now see there guys, this is a good thread. Talking to a pilot!

How old are you? It's almost never too late, and the market is going insane...It's literally the best aviation market since the 1960's, and the demand isn't going away. There just aren't enough pilots to fill the seats.

I’m 44. My dream was to go into the Air Force and be a Fighter Pilot....... F-16’s F-15’s but that never panned out. Been an Emergency Medical Technician for past 20 years. I thought about helicopters and flying medical evac. but most of their helicopter pilots are ex-military. Flying Apaches, Chinooks, BlackHawks. I admire what you do, flying is amazing. Heck I’d give up this whole hobby to fly.
