Getting difficult to find classic corals like these now a days... would kill for the purple monster

That’s on the list. Going to wait a few more months (much sooner my time) for the reef to mature .

Here was my last PM before I let that tank go to crap with a busy work schedule

Month 2, Day 60 in the books. Things have been going super smooth, too smooth :face-with-raised-eyebrow:. No uglies to speak of. Coraline starting to spread all over. Coral growth has been pretty fast on most pieces. Some of the ones that were a little more dormant in my previous nano are waking up and showing some growth tips. Still stocking and moving some pieces up and down based on their colors and PE etc. I settled on this fish load for now (27 fish) since it's allowing me to keep the nutrient level where I want without too much intervention. A little reef roids and benepets keeps things from getting too clean:D.

Awesome looking tank! I'm in the deciding process on if I should get a 200 ext as the price is Awesome compared to others. Are you happy with the setup? Any issues that you can think of? Also, is the included plumbing standard schedule 80? I ask because I would be modifying the one return to add a uv sterilizer inline. Thanks for the info

Thanks. Im honestly blown away by this setup. 3/4” glass, perfect seams, schedule 80 plumbing, love the stand, even comes with a mesh lid!
I was originally looking into custom builds which came in at double the price. I was considering waterbox but I hate their bracing and wasn’t going rimless. Red Sea is nice but not too cheap either and all these failures that I read about (even new generation) kind of scares me.

Negatives so far would be no self leveling feet on stand. The glass scratches easily so be very careful cleaning. And you’ll need 5-6 guys to move this tank. I had to hire insured movers to get it downstairs to my basement. Other than that, it’s been a joy.

Man Richard, getting your groove I see, colors on point brother!
Well done :)

Thanks Perry! One of my techniques is to look at the tank in the morning and yell at the frags! “Grow you little *astards”. They seem to respond well . These days I’m growing boogers into frags it seems lol. Big frag market this weekend up here. Should end up getting the remaining frags on the list!

Hey Jim! Yes I will be there. Going to be a zoo it seems. Should be fun. Not sure what that one is. It’s a no name Millie from a reefer near me. He has real nice Millie’s. The one he calls vitamin D is the nicest Milli that I’ve seen to date. Search “Sam’s vitamin D Milli”. This is another angle of that no name Milli. I recently moved it up so it’s getting about 500-600 par. The colors should lighten up. Second pic is the vitamin D, 3rd is another no name that I think has potential, 4th is called the tranquil. I also got a frag of the OG palmers blue mille. I know you like that one. FYI if you needed a frag right away order from Chunningham’s reef. He has a big colony. He gives nice size frags.

Great looking tank, congratulations! I will be following along for sure.

Thanks. I'll try not to disappoint :). I just moved from Manalapn. Further south now, but we're neighbors :)

Might as well add a few new pics if the pieces that I got from the Frag farmers market this past weekend.

We just moved here from Neptune a few years ago, we love the schools here for our daughter. Awesome looking pieces, I was debating on going to the Frag farmers market but didn't hear about it until last minute. I'll definitely look out for it next year.

Month 3

Tank is progressing smoothly. Began carbon dosing (low dose) with Bacto Balance. Noticed increased clarity, a little better pe and growth on some pieces, however, not all. Most of my tenuis and a few other pieces have had tighter polyp extension and faded or darker colors. Upon closer inspection I discovered white bugs all over these pieces. Did my first treatment with Sentinel. Going to do a couple more over the next week or so. I wish I could find an affordable source for Milbemycin powder. I hate adding these flavor chews to the tank and then having to do water changes messing with my nutrient levels.

Just a few quick pics to update. White balance is very off.

Things were going too smooth! Needed some drama this month and boy I got some! I discovered that I had white bugs on many acros. They're not apparent like red bugs. Easy to miss. They're more active in the dark, and if you see them in the daylight they're easily mistaken for detritus or some other particulate. If you have pale tenuis through your reef when everything else is colored up, that's a surefire sign. I've become aware that most hobbyists, even seasoned SPS keepers are oblivious to white bugs. A dip in bayer (slightly milky) for 15 mins seems to kill them. But that won't work on an infested tank.

So I did 2 doses of Sentinel. I dosed 3 chews which is 69mg of Milbemycin and 1.38G of Luefenuron. Worked great on the bugs. No signs of them. Saw increased polyp extension after treatments. Unfortunately that wasn't it. I started to get dinos forming on the rocks and even on some of the SPS (strings with bubbles) after second dose. I saw a small decline in color and polyp extension. Even my fish were acting differently hiding and being weary. I decided to put a 40w UV on the tank instead of watching this crap take over the tank. Worked like a charm. Dinos were gone in a couple of days and everything looking great. SPS growth began to take off! I had to increased 2 part 25ml daily over the passed week. Water clarity from the UV was a nice bonus.

That brings me to this morning. I walked down to the tank early in the morning to do some testing and feeding. I noticed my alk dropped again which was a sign of more growth! Everything was looking great. As I was packing up my alk kid I began hearing a crackle noise coming from under the stand. I checked but didn't see anything wrong. I kept hearing it and it was getting louder. Then I began hearing cracking noises. I thought it could have been the stand, didn't see anything wrong with the tank...... Then I saw the leaks and fractures. The Innovative Marine NUVO RFS 50 sump was coming apart. Not what I wanted to see.

I drained the sump, detached the plumbing, and hooked up controllers to run in the display. I grabbed a 75g from petco in the time being to run as a sump. Luckily everything looked ok. I increased surface agitation and added an airstoine in display while there was no sump running. Got everything running stable in the 75g for now.

Now to see if Innovative Marine will stand by their 4 month old sump.... I hope they do. I really like their tank...
