Well I just bought a jbj 45 aio aquarium found a great deal on it couldn't say no for the price, anyways I have a dilemma on how I want to light it. I personally like the ai lights and have used them for most of my tanks and I want to use them on this one too, the dimensions of it are 26.5” x 22” x 19”, atleast thats what marine depot says. I want to be able to grow all different types of corals in it even sps. I don't think primes would cut it, but I don't believe 1 26 hydra would be enough, so my question is would multiple primes be enough or should I go with 2 26 hydra HD or a 52 hydra HD? Sorry I know its alot of info but thats probably my best way of saying this. Also I found a radion xr30w gen 3 for a really good price maybe I should go for that, I just have never used any radions before.

I’ve got two Hydra 26HDs over my jbj 45 and couldn’t be any happier. I run the saxby half white schedule around 80% and get great growth. I do suppose two primes would work though. Although shadowing might be an issue.

I have the SB Reef Lights SBox Extreme 16" WiFi, 165 Watts over my JBJ 45 Flat Panel. Their new model is 18" which may be even better. Grows SPS and LPS great and my BTA is happy.

Welcome to R2R!

two hydras will work. I tried that on the same tank. I also tried a Radion XR30 G4. It will work. I would recommend getting a diffuser panel for either of the LEDs. I have given up on LED only lighting. I can't take the shadowing. This is what I am settling in on....

I’ve got a single radion xr15 pro with diffuser over my JBJ45. I’m primarily growing SPS, but I have LPS and softies in there too. It alone is enough to grow everything (all my acros are growing nicely), but there is still a decent amount of shadowing so I bet I could get even better growth by adding the LED/T5’s hybrid fixture. That’s what I’d recommend for you too, get the Hydras if you’re really into AI and the 24” hybrid fixture to add T5’s.

I will add that the XR30 was laying down almost perfect PAR numbers for SPS on the entire tank. PAR was about 350-375 at 12 inches, 250-275 at 18 inches and 200'ish along the bottom. There was not much variation along the width of the tank. If it wasn't for the shadowing, I would have stuck with the Radion.

I tried the Aquatic Life 24" T5 on my JBJ 45 and its too big. the jbj 45 " inside" area is only 15 inches the light fixture is 20" so the back t5 lights were in the back sump area.

is that the 24" model? if so isn't the lights hitting your back sump area?

There is technically a small amount of overlap of the 4th T5 bulb hanging directly over the front part of the sump area, but with the reflectors in the fixture I’m sure plenty of light from that bulb still goes into the display. I don’t think it would cause any issues in the sump area. My lid also happens to cover my sump area, so I don’t lose anything to evaporation from back there.

+1 dude. I think if I would do my JBJ 30RL again, I'd do a giesemann like yours, or either a MH or ATI T5 with Reef Brites for nighttime fluorescence. I've seen some really nice tanks and corals with LEDs, but for me with a single hydra26HD, the shadowing is hard to deal with. I think I would need at least 2. And when I go pickup frags at someone's house and they have MH or T5 as their main source of light, the colors their corals develop takes it to a whole other level. It's just amazing. Makes me wanna throw in the towel lol.
