Jebao DMP 40 - Nem Guards for fish

I have 2 Jebao DMP 40s on my tank, and a Midas Blenny that really like to use them as hide out. Since they turn off for every feeding I'm worried one of these times when I'm not paying attention or not home the blenny is going to find itself in a bad position. Has anyone had luck with either of these nem guards?

I think I pefer the 2nd one because it seems like it would hinder the flow less, but not sure the blenny would be able to squeeze into the front still.

I don't turn pumps off when I feed for that very reason. My fish do fine chasing the food as it blows around and it gets distributed very well so they all have a chance at getting some.
Guards always plug too often for my taste.
