I need a decent budget-friendly return pump for my 40 breeder. Must be quiet as the tank will be in my bedroom. I really only need about 300 GPH at 4 foot head but I like the adjustability factor.

Look at quiet one pumps. Much more reliable.

Ran a dct 12000 on my 120g for 1.5yr never a problem, even when I went out of town...

Currently have a dct 4000 as my return on a reefer 250, 54g display, just put that on a couple months ago.

The dcp and dcs are the newer models.

Essentially, they are just different/upgraded versions from the previous model. DC is the oldest and first version, DCT 2nd, DCS 3rd and DCP is the newest. I ran a DCT4000 for a couple years on an old 75 I had and it ran flawlessly. I did notice they lose speed if they don't get cleaned often enough.

Hell I can deal with that. The 40 breeder will be a temp tank until I move. So it will probably only be set up for maybe a year Max

I've been running a dc3000 for 19 months without issues. Probably cleaned it 3 times. I have a DCT3000 for backup.

I have a DCT-4000. That's the newest version. It runs good, but is noisy. Started out good, but within a couple of days of use it started to whine. Some said they had the same thing and it quieted down after a bit of time. Not for me. I had to move it from the DT in our living room, out into the garage to power our mixing/pumping station. Still works, but has gotten even noisier - loud whine. But it pumps real strong. Zero customer support from the manufacturer.

Yeah my dc3000 whines at middle to high settings. Fortunately, i keep mine at the 2nd light without noise. I would recommend getting one larger but meets the minimum ghp you are wanting.

Looks like the smallest DCP is the 5000 which has a max gph of 1450. I know these pumps gph get sucked up by head pressure. I'm wondering what kind of GPH range I would have at 4 feet of head

Well, I just looked on Amazon and they are still selling the DCT line as of today 8/4/2017. So to me it was and still is the most current available pump that I bought back in March of this year 2017.
