Kessil AP9X and iota

Wondering who has multiple ap9xs and Neptune and might be using iota to control vs the Kessil app. I find it takes way too long for my liking for the Kessil app to load. I was hoping if I used Neptune it might be quicker.

Also, since Wi-Fi is built into the ap9x, do you still need a link cable for keeping the two lights in sync? That’s one nice thing about the app, is that I didn’t need to get the extra k link cable.

Let me preference this by saying I have not integrated a ap series light. I have integrated 4 x a360x using the iota layer and it was a huge quality of life improvement.

As far as the cable goes I still had to have each of the a360x's connected via the cable to the master light that had the wifi attachment. I am not sure if I answered correctly so put the documentation below in case you have not seen it yet. You should be able to test this out with what you have now as there is no cost to do it.

Thanks… looks like I can add them without the link, but would then need to create a schedule for each light. If I used the k-link, then I could just use one schedule.

I may try this since the app really is annoying how long it takes to load.

I think you are correct with your theory. It would treat them as two separate lights vs a group. I also agree it should be pretty easy to test. I'm trying to remember if I had to reach out to Kessil before hand to enable something or not. Hopefully that is in the documentation I linked.

I was not a fan of the Spectra X controller that Kessil had with the first round of a360x's. The wireless kit was not available when I first purchased the lights. So I understand the wonky side of things. The Neptune connection made it easier to use.

Kessil, Sicce, both went out of their way to support the controller which I personally thought was cool. They both have similar products at the time but found common ground for the hobbyist.

I would not reccomend anyone try this. I’ve totally f’d myself trying to go to IOTA. My Kessil Wi-Fi was working fine except that it took way to long to load, so I figured I would give iota a try, but boy was that a big mistake.

I could never get iota to work and when I tried to go back to Kessil Wi-Fi connection to my home network, it will not longer complete the process.

I can connect to the local Kessil network, but comeone, how annoying is that to have to switch Wi-Fi networks every time you want to start and stop your lights.
I sprang 4 hours this evening trying everything thing I could think of and find on how to reconnect, but no matter what I do, step 4 that is supposed to change from a red light to green never goes to green.

I found an old,post from appeared to have been a Kessil rep here on but no matter what, it will not get past step 4.


If anyone happens to have ap9x and has successfully reconnected back to your home Wi-Fi, can you please share how you did it.

I have the eero home mesh network. As I said, I tried to restrict it to 2.4 ghz, I tried 5ghz. I’ve reset the app and the ap9x light at least 25 times each. Nothing works! I’m so frustrated that they would put something out like this.

I finally got it fixed, although I don’t know if I figured anything out or if the same steps would even work next time. I’m afraid to even attempt the iota setup again as it’s been a nightmare getting back to where I was before I tried yesterday setting up iota.

Anyways, what finally worked for me… I had to not only reset the Kessil app and reset each ap9x (hold the three buttons for 10 sec) as suggested, but I ended unplugging one of the ap9x while I worked on the other.

After doing the above housecleaning steps, I then deleted the Kessil app from my iPhone, and downloaded the app again and skipped the social media sign in and went straight to the steps to connect. This time when it got to the dreaded step 4, the Wi-Fi finally went to green and completed. I then plugged the second ap9x back in and continued with the add another option on the app to get the second ap9x connected to my home network on the app.

I suspect if I had done these same steps and attempted the iota setup, that it may have worked as well, but I’m not willing to try it again after the last 16 hours I’ve had fussing with this broken app and wonky Wi-Fi set up.
