Planning a UNS R90 Build

Two BRS heaters in a magnet mount, waiting for the reef mat to show up so I could see if there's going to be space to put it in the filter chamber. Thinking of doing the filter chamber because it's going to have an open top so the power cables come out. If I put it in the sump chamber, I would need to dremel out part of the sump lid to give the cables a space to come through.

I have my heaters in the skimmer chamber along the back wall. I used a dremmel and cut the PVC lid to allow the wires to have an exit hole. As @UNS_Brandon said, it makes easy access for the skimmer cup, and keeps the heater out of the way

@Nan.roti did you mount your heaters at 45° in the back or keep them vertical?

I’m running the BRS units (10.25”), and unless I angle them at 45°, I have to raise my skimmer chamber above 7”. I wanted to keep it at 7” to avoid raising the skimmer.

I could raise the skimmer chamber to 10” to cover vertical heaters but concerned on how much drained down there would be because I only have 3” left in the sump

Otherwise I may just move them into the filter chamber where they can sit horizontal at the bottom and avoid the ReefMat entirely.

On another note, I moved the power blocks to the back of the tank based on a suggestion here. Needed a cleaner setup, so I picked up a 3D printer and made custom mounts for it. 😬

Hey @JCarrow , I have the IM Helios heaters. They're extremely small heating elements and could be mounted horizontally in the skimmer chamber.

If the brs heating elements are too long to do that, I would suggest leaving them on putting them on the wall of the overflow chamber. I havent used the brs heating elements in years, I'm not sure how big they are.

Had to pull out the middle racetrack, but got all of the controllers mounted and wired in place. I kept them high enough that I was able to throw bolts through the back PVC board.

Threw the ReBorn Calcium Media into the bottom after washing it a couple of times and starting to fill up the tank. Let's figure out how this thing works.

Yeah, it's been a while. Put a couple of rocks in, moved a couple of fish over, put a couple more rocks in, a couple of days ago, and a couple more fish. I'm up to four cardinals right now with the two flames and added an urchin. Added the Hydros ATO and finally set up the pH meter that I got with my original launch. Also added a JB Aquatics controller so that my kids can hit the button to put it into feed mode.

Did you end up installing the Red Sea ReefMat 250 or 500 in your sump?
I started my UNS R90 as well and wanted to install one too!
So I ended up installing the ReefMat 250, the 500 will not fit, but I don't think it's actually correctly sized for the unit. I had to turn the pump down so much my flow is low, I think... I just picked up the Smart Roller M, and the adapter should be in tomorrow. I'm gonna swap it out for that one.

Which adapter did you get for the UNS R90-> Smart Roller M?

Could you send me the link for it? I’m going to try to get it tomorrow as well hahah

BRS still has the Smart Roller M in stock, and it looks like there's another manufacturers that are making fleece in the right size that we could pick up. Reef Factory is out of business. I'm not sure if BRS just bought up their entire inventory or is actually going to be taking it over. But the Reef Mat 250 just has not given enough flow, I think... It's rated up to 65 gallons, and we're running 90 with the tank and sump.

I just ordered the UNS R90 Reef Matt Roller Adapter from buceplant.com and the Reef Factory Roller (Medium) from bulkyreefsupply.com!

They should be arriving this coming Tuesday (07/14). I'm going to try to shoot a very amateur video of me installing it in the UNS R90.

Currently, I am just manually replacing filter floss in the filter sock chamber and have placed an 18W UV sterilizer there.

Where are you keeping your biomedia? I'm going to convert the refugium chamber into a refugium, but I currently just have a ton of ceramic blocks in the same protein skimmer chamber.

I'm looking forward to seeing your updated sump setup! :)
