That is pretty much the sentiment of everyone on our staff who uses one. Hopefully, I will be next! Just gotta get the new tank set up first...

Is the problem that the people are having with the detritus all over the bottom of sump solved by the bigger pump being able turn the paper better then the previous motor did or is that problem still active?

The new more powerful motor is able to spin that dirty fleece around the spindle without any issues now. I'm not quite sure about the first part of your question: "detritus all over the bottom of sump."

People earlier in the thread were talking about it gathering up in the sump because the Klir wasn’t collecting in when it would go through the Klir

OK, I understand know. That's kind of what I thought you meant, I just didn't want to be presumptuous. With the motor being capable of pulling the dirty fleece out, then you would no longer have water and detritus spilling over the sides and into the sump. In other words, it works as intended! Thank you for providing more clarity to your question, I really appreciate it.

I had to do some minor modifications to my Bashsea sump's top plate by reaming out the acrylic by 1/8th inch, and now it fits perfectly. I am glad to be using the FLIR DI-7. I suggest you install a Acrylic plate with the proper round hole (cut by TAP Plastics) so you can use that awesome Trigger. If the narrow part of the oval needs to be expanded, a Dremel does the trick.

Okay so that’s something I can do without a problem now the only question I would have is what kind of opening will I need for the Klir Filter to sit and fit in the sump?? Can I get some measurements of the part that slides in the hole as well as the measurements of the top body of the filter itself so I know what kind of mods will I have to do to make the filter fit in my TriggerSystem Sump CR44.

Thank you very much for the response. I’m prepping to set up my tank right and I have one Klir that’s still in the box. I got it last fall from Bulk Reef Supply. I’m guessing that it’ll have the small motor and other issues, which will require all the new parts. Is there a way of starting with the new parts right off the bat, so that I don’t have to go through all those headaches before getting the new parts? What’s your thoughts on numerous Klir in my Bashsea 48” signature series sump? The tank will be a fish only 205 gallon tank with angels and tangs ad the main fish.

We can hook you up with the new motors, no problem. Just email our friendly support staff at [email protected] to get the ball rolling so you don't have to swap anything out later. Most retailers already have units with the new motors, so I would definitely open up that box first just to check.

And you can totally use multiple Klirs in a single tank. That's what we do at headquarters. Granted, these are Di-4 models, but you get the idea. Jeff I am interested in the DI4 unit but here I are my measurements that I can play with. I don’t know if I will be able to use this filter was really hoping it would work. But let me know what are the measurements for the DI4 as well. I can definitely make the plate for inside the sump with a hole is whatever size is required if it needs a 4” hole I can be very precise with that the only concern is will the DI4 fit through this 3.5” tight space and will the top of the body that’s 6” for the DI7 not sure what’s for DI4 will that be able to sit in the sump??

If anyone wants some videos, closeups, or has further questions about the filter rollers and how they work let me know. I’d be glad to answer per personal experience. Honestly was skeptical at first but I was changing out clogged socks every 4-5 days. These worked ok before the motor upgrade. Now with the new motor they’re flawless. I don’t see an accumulation of detritus in the sump, on the contrary. The sump is quite clean. They have never gotten stuck since the upgrade which takes 5 minutes to do. Now it’s been about a month and ¼ of the fleece has been used and I haven’t changed a filter sock at all (fleece use coils double if I only had one but I have two Di7s).

Here's a suggestion for further improving the KLIR filter, devise some sort of ratcheted spindle system for the clean side of the fleece.
What I have found in the 13 months of usage is that the one side of the bracket (slack side), the fleece is not taunt enough against the bracket and when the void starts backing up water, I get streams shooting out of the sides of the bracket. Close inspection shows that the fleece is not taunt or tight on that side. If you manually advance the motor, it corrects but a simple design change would remedy this.

The Di-7 has been upgraded to a larger motor and all of the feedback we are hearing has been overwhelmingly positive. In instances where a Di-4 user has experienced issues with their motor, we have been replacing those too and have heard good feedback as well. Most instances of modding we hear about aren't to the units themselves, but rather their filter sock holder or coming up with an alternate adapter plate (some folks are selling 3D-printed versions) so the Klir will fit in non-standard sized sock holders.
