Korndogg's Zero Edge Shallow Reef Build
History
I took apart my 120g and decided to go with a smaller but much cooler tank. I bought this setup off of Flynstone a few weeks ago.
It is 3ft long x 3ft wide x 8 inches tall (45 gallons). So it is a very shallow tank, but it has allot of area which I really like. The best part about it is that it overflows over the sides into a ditch that goes around the whole tank and then into a drain. When I purchased the tank the sump was set up under the tank in the stand. That is ware the skimmer, heater, pumps and anything else that had to do with the tank was.
My Plan
My plan is to reuse my 70g sump from my 120. The tank will be on the main floor of my house and the sump will be in the basement. The used to be right on the basement floor which I didnt really like. I purchased a wood stand to set the sump on so that it is easier to do maintenance on. It also looks better using a wood stand, it gives it that show look :) The sump has 3 chambers, a return, fuge and a drain from the main tank. I plan on going with a deep sand bed in the fuge along with live rock and some cheato.
As far as equipment I plan on reusing my skimmer its a ASM that I used on my 120 and then use the lights that came with the tank. The light has a double ended 150w MH, 4 T-5 lights and 2 sets of LED's for night time.
Start of the Build
I first started by taking the tank outside and hosing it down real good. getting as much salt and algae off as possible. I then took the stand over to my parents house ware I painted the stand black. Here are some pics to chow the progress.
Here is the stand before paint
Here is when we sanded down the doors using 240 sand paper
Then we Primed the doors and stand

We have the rest of the stand painted and finished, I need to snap some pics and get them posted. This weekend I plan on starting the plumming and get some water going. I will update as things progress.
