I'm also curious to how high I should have this fixture if anyone can answer that. With just my leds before they were 10" above the water. I put this new fixture at 12" above the water. If you have any thoughts on this let me that would be great thanks!!!!

This is what the tank looks with settings I have set for my leds with the t5s on. I still get since shimmer from the radions but it is not as disco ballish as it was with just the radions. Here's some pictures with just the leds on and the shimmer the produce alone

I think I'll lower them to about 9 or 10 inches above the water. Luckily the hanging kit is adjustable

Bump. Just to show more people this fixture setup and to also note that there is less shadowing in areas then with just the leds and also put 2 more sps corals in the tank that are doing great with this light fixture. Polyps have been fully extended since I put them in my tank over a week ago and already starting to get great growth on the 2 new acans I put in as well over a week ago too.

The last sps as grown at least 10 new little branches since adding the fixture and my Duncan's new heads have quadrupled in size since adding the fixture as well

Just wanted to do a quick update on this tank. Unfortunately lost my lavender tang this morning to velvet. I was up until about midnight trying to help him survive in quarantine but he was in pretty rough shape. It happened in a matter of 3 days. Acting quick as I can to setup up a 40b quarantine for my other 4 fish because my 10 gallon would be to small.

On a side note I found that this coral I mentioned as a walking duncan is actually a walking dendro coral

I have one main power cord coming out of the fixture. In the fixture itself I have three cords. One to power the balladt for the t5s and two to power the radions. I reused the daisy chain plug to power the timer so the t5s can come on an hour after and an hour before the leds

I'll try and get a video this weekend for you I got busy last weekend. I'll probably end up taking it down on Sunday so one it'll make my water change easier but also to get visual of what I did wiring wise

Thanks for the inspiration/information on this. Good timing as I am adding t5s to my DYI LEDs. Unfortunately, I bought 2 of the 48"x2 bulb fixtures instead of a single 48x8. May enclose in shallow floating wood canopy. Really like the thin profile of what you've done.

Thanks! Originally I was going to do a wood canopy with t5 retrofit kits. The price ended up being to expensive plus I didn't want to build the canopy. This way ended up cheaper and looking nicer in my opinion

I was more curious about proper ventilation of LEDs and / or the t5s as both can produce a lot of heat. Did you add any supplemental fans?

I did not actually. My leds are an inch lower than the t5s so the fans in the radions would have plenty of space to breathe plus on the sunblaze fixture it has vents all around it. I've checked it a couple times, while the t5s do get hot the area where the leds are nice and cool

The top of the tank gets hot but the water stays right at temp. My water level though is like 2 or 3 inches below the top
You going to install any fans on top to draw out the heat maybe?

Here's a link to a video I did on wiring of the light I'll also add some additional pictures too. I'm actually licenced electrician so I apologize if I rushed through the video. I wire light fixtures like this all the time so I'm used to it but if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask them.
