After reaching out to instant ocean through customer service over a period over 6 weeks, I have decided to move away from their salt after over 30 yrs. Reached out to complain about a bucket of salt that was light and about 6 inches below its regular levels. Yes I got the generic response about all buckets are machined filled and I would need to send a picture and weight which I responded with immediately- After 4 weeks I had got zero follow ups from the company so I sent an email to tell them I would be moving on from using their salt as my complaint was not address after a month. Days later I got a response saying my case was reviewed and they have processed an order for a new bucket. Well the problem is I had not corresponded my address for them to process a delivery so I have deduced this response was just a BS response to act like they did respond to my complaint. I truly hate when you are loyal to a company and they do unscrupulous practices like this-
I know my small amount mean nothing to them so I will shop elsewhere ------

That’s a shame. I wonder how often that happens. Not doubting you but how do you weigh your buckets? Using an old empty? 6” is crazy. Idk I ever notice, it’s usually quite close to the top. Also curious where you purchased from?

I don't think I have ever heard of salt being shorted that much before. I also am curious to know where you ordered the salt from if it was directly from them or somewhere else

Not sure if it's true but I read someone saying they bought a bucket from Amazon that was full of dirt. The person said the lid appeared to be sealed but they suspect someone was able to get it off without breaking the lid.
That's like people buying "new" phones and receiving rocks in the package instead, haha. I would be so disappointed if I received dirt instead of salt

From reading it seems they weigh returns and if the weight is correct and the package intact they don't open it to inspect the contents. I don't know if f it's true but I suspect it may befrom some of the stories I've read from of people that have purchased returned items..

They do have buckets that are a lot taller, I have some I used for my quarantine and it was obviously taller than the last one I bought. Maybe it was a taller bucket but with the same amount

I used IO regular for a long, long time.
I always mix and test the big 3.
Alk. Was 9.5, ca was 300 and mag was 1200. Thats quite a bit off from past results.
I now use blue bucket and have for over 3 years now.
Never contacted IO, but I brought it back to the lfs and they tested it and gave me a refund. Lfs test had ca and mag even lower.
So far blue bucket has always tested within the stated big 3 levels.

I used IO for decades as price was great.
So I tolerated the brown scum on my bucket.

These days there are a number of new players which mix clean in 30 minutes and leave no scum.

You won’t last long today with poor service.

I have used io for 30 years+
Yep find another salt . Changing one bucket is nothing to them I understand your feeling about them .

All these testimonials are gonna guilt me into switching too!

I've already been thinking of switching but tanks are currently doing so well I'm afraid to make any changes. If I had a fancy mixing station I probably would have switched just because of the residue left behind but mixing in brutes I just rinse them every few months and don't worry about the crust that doesn't come out with a rinse.

It's a new formula. It has electrolytes or something. 😄

If you run a 1/4 cup of rox carbon in a nylon bag it will pickup the organics and you wont have the issue.
I used this method and my 55g drums nevr had buildup. I made and stored it for weeks with no residue. Just a nylon bag dropped in with no circulation.
