Leopard Wrasse Care

Hey Reefers,

I have come across an opportunity to pick up a healthy juvenile leopard wrasse that is already eating mysis shrimp which I know is half the battle. I was wondering if anyone with experience could give me any hints to taking care of this beauty. I live on the coast and dive regularly and can bring back pods like crazy so live food is pretty consistent in my tank. I have a pair of maroon Clownfish that are about 2" female and 1" male. I also have 2 reef chromis and a yellow watchmen goby that the maroon clowns dont bully at all. I am moving everyone to a bigger tank over the next few weeks. not rushing it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ahead

I have one I did nothing special and hes thriving over a year now. Id say go for it

Getting them to eat Mysis may be half the battle but I would say it's the second half haha. The first half would be having the leo healthy and comfortable enough to be out and about and searching for live food, if shes out and eating frozen I'd say it's good to go...assuming it continues this once you have it...Only problem I see would be your clowns, I've never had maroons but know they can be bullies and the leo is already a skittish fish so that could be risky.

Also you probably have sand but figured I would mention just in case you didn't, the leo will need sand in your tank to bury itself at night...and also in the qt tank before that

I have a trio of leos and once they started to feed there were no problems with them.
Their out in the open all the time

Awesome guys, Yeah I went back to the store today to check in on it and its still swimming around looking for food and eating mysis every time I go in. Looks like I'm going to pick it up on Wednesday. As far as the clowns go I may be getting rid of them in the next week for a smaller Gold Dot and Goldflake Maroon Clown pair. Theyre much smaller and are in a tank full of pajama cardinal fish right now haha so no worries with them. If I see any aggression theyre gone and in with the new. This leopard wrasse is turning out to be my favorite fish of all time but we will see.

I have a blue star leapord and it is one of the coolest fish I have ever had and eats all day including whatever I feed that day.

I have A Male Blue Star Leopard, Two Female Blue Star Leopards (bought two days ago and haven't seen though), and a Potters Leopard Wrasse.

The male blue star and potters have been established and are really hardy fish. They both ate within a few days. The toughest thing for them is the jet lag, they have to switch days and nights. If it's at the LFS and has figured it out already, that's half the battle (being there to feed them when they emerge).

They are also easily bullied, I had a lime green wrasse in my wrasse tank that bullied ONLY various species of leopard wrasse with extreme prejudice. Rare, my other wrasses are all docile. So I removed him and sold him! :)

Awesome. Thanks again everybody for the in put. And since I know everyone likes pictures heres my new female Blue Star Leopard Wrasse. She ate withing 5 minutes of being in the tank and has been bouncing around looking for pods since then. Also the maroons haven't bothered her at all.

Blue star leopards emerged today for about an hour and then went in to hiding. But not before eating a few blood worms
