It’s funny what you described, blue with white stalks is what it looked like when I bought it...

I don’t know, the name is whatever name the seller gave it. Looks like a wild piece. But if the other one was labeled echinata species then yes it was mislabeled.

so i just picked one up, any special care tips?

is it normal that the base is white and tips are only blue under white light? wondering if i bought a semi bleached one.. the lfs turned up the white lights and the blues really came out, but now perusing this thread.. looks like everyone has blue corals even under mostly blue lights :eek:

Agree. Corallite structure is not right for a. echinata. More like tenuis, a. plana or a. nasuta. Its a nice coral none the less, I would take a frag of it for sure.

Yep normal for the base to be white and tips to be blue just depends on the genetics/variant. As for care its a pretty picky coral to keep. Rock solid stable water chemistry and lots of flow, both of these are very important. Good lighting is also important but echinata can do well under lower light as long as its a quality light source with proper spectrum.

Man and this is the Piece for me. I have had an aquascene, 2 wild ice fire and 1 DOA from BC. I just can't keep it alive, but cross my fingers this is My OG Aquascene Ice fire. Believe it or not I have had this piece for 2 years. I never cut it and it died on me twice but looking healthy and growing as of late

Happy New Year!
I have long wanted Echinata Ice Fire in my tank.
Our LFS received several colonies a week ago, which did not look very good.
The owner of LFS has cut the colonies into frags and is not selling them yet, until he sees that they are healthy and everything is fine with them.
A lot of those who bought them before complained that they did not survive.
I read somewhere that for success with them, unlike other Echinata, she needs a PAR 180, maximum 200.
I would not like to be among those who lost this coral.
Those who successfully maintain this coral, tell us what is your PAR?
