I just picked up a ql 40 uv sterilizer and I have no clue if it can be installed horizontally or if the the bottom part of the sterilizer can be placed inside the sump. Does anyone know?? Thanks

The unit has a horizontal kit for horizontal installation. The unit is also sealed so it could sit in the sump but I would be extra careful about the top of the unit where the bulb inserts. I personally would instal it externally but horizontal.

The Lifegard units are an excellent value. The are the most affordable commercial quality unit. I have used them in the past and would not hesitate to use them again. The only week point is the ballasts which don't last as long as Emperor or AquaUltraviolet, but they are a third the price. If your ballast goes bad in three years you can swap it for a better one or just buy another Lifegard ballast and figure you will get similar life out of it.
