Hi! I’ve been out of reefing for a while, and I’m just now setting up a new tank. I don’t want to start my new build thread until I have all my equipment picked out. Most of it’s on the way, but I’m still deciding on lights and return pump. The tank is 36 x 22 x 22. And will be SPS dominant once it’s matured. I’d like to receive some recommendations on lights please. I’ll be using an Apex Pro for my controller. Thanks!

Budget and priorities will play a big role.

Low budget? Nicrew Gen 2. Couple of the 150s or 200s and you’re done

High budget? ATI Straton X

I’d light it with a pair of radion XR15s myself, and add ai blades in a year or two if you need it. Buy some used gen 5 XR15s on marketplace and you’ll have a strong budget option.

I’ve been looking through a lot of threads and I’m leaning toward Radion. Are there an advantages or disadvantages of going with two XR15s vs one XR30 and Pro vs Blue?

Disadvantages are some of us experience issues with mobius being unable to keep track of the correct date and time which cause the lights to come in at random times. I got sick of them blasting in the middle if the night so I now have 3 Gen 4 xr 15s collecting dust. Its not an issue that effects everyone but it is a real issue that has been happening since mobius was released years ago.
Mobius will state the device time is incorrect when in fact it is incorrect in the app. It happens anytime power is interrupted but I'm aware of that and can deal with it. I can't deal with the random loss of time.

All different devices on different tanks that have the same problem. These tanks are only running powerheads so it's not a big deal when it happens.

Thanks - That’s the 3rd time I’ve read that this week and that would definitely be a problem for me. I think I will go the Meridian route. Next is determining if the Meridian 35 will be too much for a UNS 490, 36x22x22.

Too much is better than not enough because you can always turn them down. I have a meridian 11 over an IM20 and am happy but haven't had the tank running long enough and has had some issues so I can't say how well it will grow coral. If it does as well as my photons I've been running for several years I'll be happy. I'm pretty comfortable with the app. I used the old one and the new one is much nicer. I love the ability to share schedules so easily with the committee.
