Lighted refugium baffles

I was playing around with some LEDs, glass, and copper tape.

I ended up siliconing another plate of glass to it so it can be used as a temporary refugium light.

As I'm looking at it, I'm thinking it looks like a baffle that hasn't been installed.

Whatcha think, could lighted refugium baffles be a thing?

Yup, as long as its nicely sealed I see no reason you can't light the sides of a refugium that way. Good idea :)

I beg to differ.

It gets rid of the protrusion hanging above it.

An AI Prime refugium light is just shy of 31 cubic inches. An 8x10 lighting mod would add about 21 cubic inches to an existing baffle.

All light would be diffused into the algae compartment.

A lid could be used to cover the fuge without affecting the lighting.

I think a tumbling flow in the fuge would cause things like chaeto and pom-pom to scrub the glass constantly and be self cleaning. I'm not 100% on that though.

A light hanging above the sump will work just as well for growing algae. If space is a concern then an algae reactor can be used outside the sump. In any case I think an ATS is a far better option. What you have done looks really cool though!
