Hey everyone, I need an opinion on lighting options for my 50. The tank is in my bedroom so noise and especially looks are important. My tank is mostly softies and some LPS so light demands aren't extreme but I do have a lot of rock so shadows are a concern. I currently have an AI Blade that I had lying around on it but I don't like how low they are to the water. My options at the moment are the Straton X on a BOT mount, a Meridian 24 with or without edge bars, a 3 bar Helix combo, an XR30 on a hybrid mount with blades or a Reefi Uno. I'm heavily leaning towards the Straton because it's silent and looks beautiful but I'd like some opinions keeping in mind the noise and aesthetics as well as performance.

Reefi uno I would say is the best option functionally, assuming you have these fixtures all on hand already.

I would go with an all Helix combo or maybe two meso blues with a pair of Kessil's (or similar fixture). I'm rocking two meso blue (pro version) and two 360x's in my son's 50g lagoon and it's completed covered. But if you go with a Helix combo, you'll be covered. Just reach out to Luca and he'll guide you on which spectrum to combine/create.

I like the Meridian option. I run 3 xr15's on my ext 50.

I reached out to Luca and he is very helpful. I think they would be great and probably my least expensive option. My only concern is the look with the side of tank mount. How do you have it mounted and do you happen to have any pictures?

I have a custom 8020 stand that I built and have the lights mounted on 8020 rails that are connected to the back of the stand. I'll see if I can find some pics.

I have a 60 shallow reef that I was going to use but i chipped it so it’s becoming a python tank but I was going to build a custom aluminum extrusion stand and make a light mount just like that. I still might build one for the 50 eventually just because but I went with a Straton X and a ceiling mount so that issue is solved for now.
