Limpet had a nice snack

Even where it ate, there is skin and polyps left, hopefully it recovers.

They havent been a problem for my sps in yet, so thought they might have been herbivores but been feeding the tank less so betting they are going after tissue now. :(

Weekend plan will be to pull as many as i can find.

Seriously? A limpet did that?

Just because he was at the scene of the crime doesn’t make him guilty!

I’m not so sure the limpet did it.

My wife said it was on it at lights on, i just found it like this when I got home from work.

So it was atleast doing cleanup if caused by something else.

"As with many of the snail species, it is best to physically remove the limpet if you are unsure of its species and diet. Some limpet species are herbivores and are beneficial to even a reef aquarium. But even the herbivores can become harmful if there is not enough food for them in the aquarium. Limpets will typically not reproduce to any significant number in the aquarium, and physical removal is usually a sufficient control for the SPS coral aquarist."

I wouldn’t remove them just yet. But I would be on the lookout for pests!

There it is! However this is the first I have ever heard of it happening.

Looks like a fresh frag? Maybe some algae left on it?

i had one eating my acros too. I dismissed them at first thinking maybe they were eating dead flesh but nope they kept eating...

I can no longer say that’s the first I ever heard of it happening!

Keyhole limpets are well known to eat sps....as well as the elephant ear scutus...

There are several species of limpets - keyhole limpets are ones are the ones that'll eat SPS.

Judging by that photo you posted, you have keyhole limpets.

I'll be sending them to the fuge.

The frag was a few weeks old and just yesterday I noticed it was encrusting over the glue. Its an older classic SPS in captivity for years so hopefully it will recover.
