Going to purchase lion fish or Puffer. From experience, which one and why.....yes, my tank is empty, 70 gal , no fuge

You're limited to dwarfs of either in a 70 gallon. I have a thing for fuzzy dwarf lions...smart, interesting, fun to feed, don't get too big, can be kept with medium sized fish.

Between the two, I’d say dwarf lion. 70g is tight for almost puffers.

The Canthigaster genus puffers would work in your tank, the blue spotted is one of the most popular, I'd likely not add him as your 1st fish, they can get aggressive and nippy. There are a few varieties in this genus that stay small and work well in smaller tanks. A dwarf or medium bodied lion could work in your tank as well, but special care does need to be noted to successfully keep these guys long term. For your interest you may take a look as these 2 threads, I am by no means an internet expert, just a compilation of experiences and observations.
