I have ordered a dwarf lionfish (zebra) and should take ownership the last week of Jan. My lfs will be holding it for 2 weeks and getting it to eat frozen foods.
I have a question for others that have or had a lionfish. Do you wear protective gloves for tank maintance? If so, which gloves do you recommend?

I've never worn gloves around any fish. I've had lions and other scorpions in the past and have found them to be pretty docile fish for the most part. Once they're acclimated and learn that your the person who brings food, lions can be curious and may swim up to you but you shouldn't have to worry about them. They generally only use the venom as a defensive weapon, not offensive.
Show them respect, use common sense and move slowly and you'll be fine :)

+1. Just pay attention to where the lion fish is and don't make sudden moves to startle it. This is what I did when I had a lion fish. I did get stung once but it was because I was unaware of where the lion fish was. It got spooked and I got stung.
