I've put a gorgeous green and gold lobophyllia in my 36G tank about 10 days ago, and it seems to he slowly receding. My water parameters are all spot-on, some I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas why this new guy is not happy. I did have a five day period of significant water cloudiness, which I'm pretty sure was secondary to a bacterial bloom in this relatively new tank, and that certainly did reduce the light it was receiving. But the water has now cleared, and there still seems to be slow recession. Should I be feeding this guy mysis or cyclopeeze, or just move him higher in the tank for more light perhaps?

If you can feed it that could help. I would try feeding some oyster feast / cyclopeeze to get the lobo opened up and then see if it will take some mysis.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I think the main underlying problem may be that my tank is just too new (4 weeks), although the mushrooms, polyps, and chalices I have in there are doing just fine. I suppose I'll attempt a feeding and then give it a few days. If it continues to decline, then I'll move it to my established BioCube for a few weeks

I have two brains that have been very slowly receeding over the past 2 yrs while my acans and other LPS are doing great. I've tried different lighting levels, flow, etc.. I dunno?

What type of lighting do you have the lobo under? also what are the params you keep the SW at? and where in the tank is the lobo?

Lobo is under two white Elos e-stripes, each with 9 CREE-XP LEDs.
It's on a rock about two inches off the substrate.
Temp is 77.5, Salinity 1.025, pH 8.1, KH 11, Ca 460, Nitrate 0, Phos 0.

how is your mag?

Never checked it. I do 15-20% water change weekly. I assume that with regular water changes I would have no need to supplement.
i'm assuming its fine since you said its only 4 weeks old.....i doubt lack of light would cause it to recede and if it was too much it would bleach before anything....what test kit do you use for ALK?11 does not leave much room for error imo....

Still using the API test kit. Is there that much of a difference in quality/reliability between the different test kits?

As it turns out, I think that the recession and general failure to thrive was somehow related to the recent bacterial bloom. I cut the feeding for a couple of days and reduced the photoperiod. Followed that up with a 7.5% water change, and now he's starting to perk up
