red polyp clathrata is a score, nobody has it! My chunk finally has some good size to it but cant get the color out of it in the new tank yet, but growth it kicking in fast!

The only one's I have seen are from WWC and ATL. I've yet to see a picture from another reefer. Would love to see a shot of yours, even if it isn't colored up all the way. Is the base suppose to get more green or yellow?

Glad to hear that it is growing fast for you. Once they get a few nubs the growth begins to compound. It's going to be a SLOW start for this frag, though, it doesn't have a bit of vertical growth. It'll be fun/painful watching to grow.

I bought mine in person fresh cut out of ATL's display. This coral is painfully hard to get vertical growth out of; ATL's looks like a reverse sunset monti haha. Mine is still just encrusting with a few vertical nubs, but no terminal branching yet. Ill get a pic of it for you and post in my build thread. Base should be bright yellow with red polyps. Yours looks a bit green(id love to see green rather tan in my case haha), but your polyps color looks spot on. With a bit of time and perhaps a bit more light you should see the yellow really pop.

Thanks for the info! Wonder what it takes to get vertical growth, perhaps blasting it with flow...or maybe less light would make it want to grow upwards?

Right now it's mid tank, it should be getting fairly strong flow, it's right near the far side of the aquarium where all of the MP60 flow is bouncing off.

I'm not sure really, I would love to have some branching myself. I've had this coral for a little over a year or so and it's still void of vertical growth. Mine is also positioned in a ton of flow and it seems to love. I have it fairly low in the tank due to my scape, but right in the hot spot under the radium. It has lightened up a ton in this new tank, still has some faint yellow to it, but nothing like it should be.

Thanks! I actually want to remove the big scroll coral. The layout should show three distinct islands, where the corals reach out to fill the negative space, the big scroll is in the way!

Perhaps it's a path of least resistance type thing, if I could position the frag up on a small pedestal it might make branching out easier than encrusting to the main rock.

Haha ya it's definitely focused on encrusting, that can be frustrating! Although towards the top I see a ton of new heads popping up.

Not quite ready for a FTS yet! The tank has been in "recovery" mode from running at 71 degrees for the past 6+ months. Now the the temp has been corrected for awhile, things are looking up, encrusting, and coloring up. Can't wait to see thing here in a few more months.

I'm in the process of replacing most of my sandbed, an alkalinity overdose last year turned my entire sandbed to solid rock. Then algae started to grow on it. I've got the new sand in buckets ready to go in.

Sorry that I haven't responded. I'm still struggling with the STN issue. Salinity is getting close to normal again though. I'm hoping after this round things will be back to normal. Unfortunately I've lost a decent number of frags and even some of my larger colonies are beginning to die off.

It's actually a giant scroll coral :)

It's even larger now. I just don't have it in me to break it up.

What I thought about doing was just using my dremel tool to cut off 2-3" around the entire circumference of the coral. At some point it's just going to get too big.

I recently modded my Aquactinics Constellation (T5 - 7 Bulbs) light fixture with two 48" ReefBrite XHO Actinic LEDs. My aquarium is 48x30x24 and the T5's alone were not quite enough to cover the 30" span. I chose these LEDs because they were a cheaper option than completely replacing my light fixture and didn't require heavy modification. I wanted something that looked clean, these were perfect because they are simple and low-profile.

I attached them with the stock brackets and used some hex screws from Ace Hardware. The entire modification from take-down to lights-on wasn't more than an hour. Overall I'm very happy with the look.

I've actually had these for a couple weeks now, but I didn't get around to installing them because the first set was only pulling about 41w (they would slowly trickle down from 50w or so over a 5 minute period). Reefbrite advertises these as 54w light fixtures. ReefBrite quickly replaced them, one bar runs a solid 57 w but the other still has the same problem and slowly trickles down to 44-45w. I plan on sending that one back, again, for replacement. So far they have been very responsive.
