i apologize in advance for this post being all over the place it is 2 in the morning and i should probably be studying for my AP test tomorrow

it has been quite some time since i have posted on these forums. i was an active member prior to the forums moving over to R2R back when they were on reef central.

for those of you who do not know me my name is Mike, i am 18 and from the new haven area. I have been involved in the hobby for about 5 years now. i started with a 29 bio cube back in 2011. i am now a SR in high school, college bound, and currently have a 125 gallon system in my basement, that i cant bring with me. i knew this day would come i just cant believe its actually time to break it down.

over the past few months i have thinned out most of my SPS as well as my live stock. (the eel took care of most of the live stock) unfortunately everything reaming was killed, while i was on vacation :(.

imagine your worst tank vacation nightmare, than figure out how to make it worse, and you basically have what happened to me. i was gone for 6 days (off the grid, no cell service). i left the tank with 25 gallons of RO (more than enough) on an ATO and left explicit instructions to my sister to only feed the eel and do nothing else to the tank. i returned 6 days later to a horrible smell, an empty bag of food, and a green and cloudy tank. the only living thing i can identify at this point is the bristle worms.

from the investigating i did, what i gathered is that the tank was over fed (seeing how the entire flat of LRS was gone, plausible). the nutrients spiked in the tank which caused the skimmer to go crazy. the skimmer began wet skimming and managed to skim as much water off the tank as the ATO would make up for. that drooped the salinity to 1.019 (coral loves that...)

anyway, not sure what died first the nem or the eel but whichever it was basically made the tank uninhabitable. my plan at this point is to drain it, bleach the rock, toss the sand, and sell off the equipment.

i will start a detailed F/S thread with all the details of the equipment but for now here is a short list.

6' 125G tank and stand. $300 OBO, Stand is finished in black.

2, 36" 6 bulb current t5 fixtures, both with bulbs at about half the life. they are hanging over the tank but im sure if i looked hard enough i could find the legs. also they have been retrofitted with switches and moonlights. S100 a piece OBO. we could work something out if someone wants both.

55 gallon home made sump. one of the baffles needs to be re siliconed. $40

SWC skimmer, not sure of the model, i will find it. great skimmer, has a lot of life left in the pump. $100 OBO

3 chemical dosing pump, needs new heads. $50

water mixing station. this consists of a mag 21, and 2 25 gallon brutes. they are all plumbed together to make a mixing station. i will post pictures of that. S100 firm with the pump.

775GPD RO/DI unit. $50. needs new sediment filter, membrane has about half the life left in it. it still produces water at 0 TDS.

a box of reef crystals, i think there are 2 or 3 full unopened bags. $25

im sure there is lots more i am forgetting but this is a good start. i will make a F/S thread later i just wanted to post this as a tank update. DM me if you have questions about items for sale or post them in the F/S thread

I wish I could set up something small but i have some pretty strict rules I have to actually follow, as opposed to the general guidelines they provided me with in highschool [emoji23]
