looking at vertical water tanks.

these are what i am looking for. i currently full/storing in a Rubbermaid trash can, keep in mind normally they are gray, brown , black. was storing it on the ground. its new location will be like 8ft off the ground, inside so i dont want to have to climb a latter to check the water levels all the time. so i am looking to for something somewhat clear. something that has the numbers on it to display about how much water it in the tank and a lid is a plus.

not trying to hijack your thread with a DIY project, but you could use your rubbermaid can, with a uniseal at the top, and a uniseal at the bottom, and a clear length of tube in between for a level sight guage. it would save money, and the black can would cut down the light. i have seen algae grow in those clear tanks..

hijacking, not at all you bring up a good point and a good idea.
i did find out that having one of those items shipped is about "70.00" and just about dbl's the cost.
i did find one local, new, was going to check it out.

Check around locally for some agricultural supply places in your more rural areas. I've purchased all of my vertical and horizontal water storage items through one locally and have saved the shipping costs.

Also check power washing stores and suppliers. My local one sells all kinds of tanks. The uniseal or bulkhead mod with the clear hose would be the cheapest though.

Some friends and I put together an order for 5 100g vertical tanks. The shipping total was ~200 for all 5. With shipping it was still way cheaper than anything semi local.

Works for me. A number of local reefers do this. Mark the tube by adding a gallon at a time and marking the water line.

I got mine locally from a juice factory... They were $20 and smelled like grape juice haha.... Just give a nice bath with a little bleach and your in buisness.... Check your local yellow pages man it's the best bet..... I can buy hundreds of them here for $20 a pop shipping would have to be a killer.....

A bulkhead at the top of tank and a bulkhead on the bottom with a clear plastic tube in between bulkheads will give u a sightglass..

some images, did it DIY style as most my stuff is already DIY. some images and its still not finished as i am waiting on a new shut off float for my RO unit as it got broken while remodeling (which is still in the works but on a finishing stages).

the main thing here is i used gray electrical PVC fitting as bulkheads the PVC fittings are too rounded and would not make a good fit at all. and a couple garden hose rubber gaskets to seal it.
