I'm looking for placement suggestions for soft and LPS. I'm trying to plan placement (of undecided coral) before seeing a bunch in person at a swap. I am not looking to stock it right now, but having a general plan and seeing corals in person will help.

This is a 20-gallon long IM tank. It has all of the fish it will ever have, two clowns, a cardinal, and a clown goby. I still need to add a CUC eventually.

I haven't figured out why, but my tank isn't growing algae like my daughter's. They are about the same age, but look completely different.

How was the tank started, and have you verified the cycle is actually complete? Thats quite white!

As for corals, zoas, leathers, duncans, are all good places to start.

Yeah, the cycle is complete. Both were set up the same, using used media and seeded rocks. They also used the same source for sand and water. The only difference was the light and rockwork. I of course verified the cycle by feeding it ammonia and testing. That was done over a few days, as we do with our freshwater tanks.

I know what corals I can start with, but my unknown is about placement.

EDIT: The tanks have been up and slowly stocked over the course of almost two months.

Its hard to advise specifics when you have no idea's, but generally speaking soft corals are normally placed a bit lower in the tank (excluding some leathers as leathers like higher light and flow) and lps generally placed in the middle of the tank and higher up.

Coral placement is all based on light and flow.... lower light and lower flow corals go lower in the tank and higher light and higher flow corals go up higher. Generally speaking. So you have to google each corals needs before you buy it to ensure you can provide for it.
