Hello everyone,

My ORP in the tank ususally stays between 450-460 according to APEX. For the past few days I have been experiencing low ORP in tank- around 350. There has been no changes made, as well as no dead fish found. No water changes has been done. What could cause low ORP? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Do you do any carbon dosing? Most people say don't be too concerned with ORP numbers. I notice when I use peroxide/vinegar or additives such as vitamin C my ORP numbers drop.

How does your ORP stay between 450 and 460? Do you dose ozone or use Purigen? I would check and clean the probe well, soak in vinegar, then use a soft bristle toothbrush to clean it well. They get fouled easily and even the smallest amount of algae will cause it to be off. I had a really high ORP as well at one point, was instructed by RHF to clean like the instructions I gave and it dropped the ORP once the probe was clean. An ORP of 450 in a tank is super unusual. Even one of 350. I would bet that it's your probe, not your tank..

Thank you for your reply. I don't dose carbon to my tank. Any other suggestions?

I think you are absolutely right. I have an Apex for about a year and never clean a probes. I will clean it tomorrow and hope it will solve the issue.

I was told to clean and calibrate probes once a month. I don't do it that often, but I wonder since Apex is now selling the double junction probes if they report better results. I have bad luck with probes; one tank says my pH is 6.45 but using a test kit it is 8.2....
