I love the whiter spectrum and how shimmer/fish look but a lot of corals seem to hate it.
My question is who is running a mostly LpS setup with more daylight spectrum or over 25% on cool or warm white? Still keeping coral in its preferred par range?
Can I see photos?

Thanks all

Fts from 2 weeks ago, since then ive added a lobophyllia. Just realized I actually dont have very many lps! Favia and platygyra on the left side, goniopora back right, blasto up front on the right, and a hammer coral that is just peeking into the frame on the left side. Also editing this in be because I forgot it was even there lol, theres a mummy eye chalice hidden in the macroalgae in the middle of the tank, you can see it if you zoom in.

What corals don’t like the sun?
Exactly.
Soooo many reefers love the blue spectrum due to how corals look and the push by the big box reefing companies

I am mostly euphyllia. I have over 20 torches, several hammers and frogspawn. My peak hours are from 12pm - 5pm running Kessils at 70% color at 85% intensity with two 14k Reefbreeder Edge bars at 50% during peak hours. My euphyllia during that time receive about 450 PAR.

The last picture is during ramp down where it is mostly blue for the last hour of the day. I have a three hour ramp up and three ramp down on each side of my peak. Whites are included in all hours except the first hour and last hour of the day

I’m going to try and get some pictures during the day, unfortunately I’m almost always at work, I do run blues at the beginning of the day and end of the day but my peak hours have allot of white. My corals all seem happier during that time to tell you the truth. 95% LPS in this tank.

The only corals that hate a white spectrum are dead or dying corals. Dana Riddle has some amazing articles about light penetration at documented depths. At the level where most torches are collected, which is about 100-140 feet max. There is still a "white" spectrum. Keep in mind, most corals are collected by divers holding their breath. So..the corals in the hobby receive a pretty white spectrum.
The "blue craze" is simply marketing. Plain and simple. People want to see 'crazy colors' that only exist under a very unnatural blue spectrum not found in nature.

I am sorry if that sounded crass. If corals seem 'to hate' a whiter spectrum, they more than likely came from a system running a heavy blue spectrum. Corals will need time to acclimate to a whiter spectrum, mainly due to PAR is higher when white light is introduced

I’m blasting my LPS par wise and they are tolerating it well. I’m running pretty white with some red spectrum too for 6 hours of peak.

I run my reef lights on the graph below, however that doesn’t include the 10 hrs of ~ 200 watts daylight spectrum lighting to grow my mangroves.

Those don't look tan!
Most corals under a whiter spectrum look 'normal'. You don't see the Avatar movie colors in the ocean...why.. because it's not natural.
Your tank looks like a piece of the reef!! Well done!

It really depends on the coral and PAR level TBH

I am following your tank thread and have been impressed from the start. I love that you think outside the box and give your corals the spectrum they need! I am seeing more and more people going to a more white spectrum

Thanks…I also do as you mentioned earlier, the last hour I only have blues on and dim to off. Overall I like the full power time more, so much interesting stuff is missed with just the blues on.
