on day 2 of it not coming out during feeding or in general.

4 weeks ago we picked this wrasse up from the lfs, kinda in horrible condition. it was suffering from some sort of bladder infection but we were able to qt it and treat it with kanaplex and epsom salt for about a week great success. over a few days it recovered and was back swimming and eating, it was doing so well we added it back to the display tank where it ate and for the most part swam fine, in higher flow areas it would have a hard time turning around, where it would just flip around until it oriented itself, but with the flow off it seemed to totally lose its balance.

while it was in the display tank it was actually recovering from the issues stated above and ate every feeding.

yesterday however it was completely gone, not in its usual hiding spots, didn’t come out for feeding 3 times, and it’s not in my overflow either. we do have a mesh cover for the tank so it wouldn’t harm itself jumping.

there is no evidence of a body, CUC isn’t massed in one area either. tank looks otherwise normal and so do its tank mates.

maybe it’s possible it got attacked? we just added a yellow coris wrasse about a week ago, but when we added it they got along just fine, they even swam together at all times, but i’m not going to rule it out either. haven’t seen any evidence of aggression between tank mates except an occasional fight between my fire gobies, which always resolves.

i’m at a total loss on where this thing could’ve gone. and the internet is very vague when researching this, people love to throw around how they bury themselves, which is false for the fairy wrasse.

I’ve had them disappear for a week or so, then, just show up, time will tell.
i’ve heard of the sand bed wrasses to be the ones that disappear, but when a fairy wrasse disappear it usually means it died..

Honestly if it’s a wrasse, my first guess is dried up somewhere outside the tank.

My Naoko was missing for a few days.

I noticed it dried up in my carbon media basket.

Somehow got into the overflow, through my filter sock and onto the media basket

It is more likely that it is gone than hiding. If its been out and has shown signs of sickness, it probably succumed to it.

Wrasses can carry a lot of different diseases, especially internal parasites. They also swim into the rocks at night to sleep. That is probably where it perished.

There's also a chance it jumped. I have had one that has gone floor surfing 2 times. Luckily, both times I was near the tank and heard it. There's a small hole in the back of my enclosed tank for wires and he darted right out.

There is still a chance, however limited. I've seen one stay up in the rocks for almost 2 weeks before.
