Just started up the skimmer. I'll let the ammonia clear out, water change and add my first small fish.

Sounds like a great idea to me! I always use a hardy fish to cycle with. Gives you something to look at that helps your tank cycle :)

I'd like to get a pistol shrimp & Hi Fin Red Banded Goby (Stonogobiops nematodes). I'll put in another shrimp or two.

I was thinking about Banggai AKA Kaudern's Cardinal (Pterapogon kauderni) or maybe a Longspine Cardinalfish (Zoramia leptacantha)

Nice! That Kaudern's Cardinal sure is a pretty fish. BTW, Thanks for helping me sort out my plumbing flow issue. It is appreciated!

I'm going to make some purchases today. I just ran tests and everything looks good. I'm going to buy some salt and get the salinity corrected and buy some live stock once the salt is stable. I'm glad I found some established live rock!

Here are the test results using API.

Ammonia 0
Nitrates 0
Calcium 400
Phosphate 0.25
dKH 8
Temp 80
Salinity 1.021

I brought the salinity up to 1.025 today and bought a pistol shrimp & Hi Fin Red Banded Goby (Stonogobiops nematodes) today at the LFS. I also got a couple nice flat pieces of dry rock and some cheato for the fuge.

I still haven't seen the livestock but I'm sure they're just getting settled in. Since I increased the salinity my drains are starting to gurgle intermittently. I may have to adjust the ball valves again. Beananimal's design was whisper quiet for days until I changed the salinity.

I forgot to mention that yesterday I found my goby in my sump. I dug him out and put him back into the DT. I'm going to pick up some froze food to try to coax the shrimp and goby out of hiding.

Yeah, that can happen. I've had the same experience myself many a time. I'm sure it won't be your last time either. Those little fish just seem to get themselves into trouble at times.

I went the the LFS to pick up some frozen food. I ended up bringing home a Purple Firefish (Nemateleotris decora) also. I couldn't resist.
