Warning, my long review of my LumenBars as well as touching on the Photon V2+’s. Today I got the last of my LumenBars installed. I have two 60” (1x Royal Ice, 1xHigh Octane UV) and three 24” (all UV/Blue). I also have the 3x 24” Photon V2+ lighting my 300 gal DD. The Photons are running front to back. The two 60” are running across the front of the tank angled down and back to cover the front of the tank and front of the rocks. Two of the 24” are on each side of the tank angled in to get the sides of the rocks. Finally, one 24” in the back angled toward the front.
My hope was to eliminate as much shading as possible while keeping par relatively even throughout the tank (on each level of rock work). Adding the three 24” LumenBars added about 30 par throughout the tank. They definitely look good, but not too blue at all. The 60” bars added about the same although the are not angled all the way back like I’d like. So most of that is angled down and the first quarter of the tank. (See pics)
My main lights have a bit more white than I’d like, but I’m still acclimating the corals and dialing them in. I do have the dimmers, but I’m still waiting on my GHL controller. It should be here Tuesday. It will be nice to have them ramp up too instead of just on and off. So far though, build quality is very good. (Some glue squeezed out of seal and exposed onto the led as shown in pics.) However, the aluminum frame is very nice. The mounting system is pretty good too. I just wish they had better factory options for linking them together the way I have the Photons configured. (That is a Photon critique, not LumenBars.) With some aluminum from Lowe’s and some drilling I made it work.
Over all my corals are already starting to color up more. Had a bad batch of water that bleached or almost killed and killed most of my sps. Long story, but also I had the Bozily led panels on there with one panel having half the lights out. They were set by my eye instead of with a par meter. Once I got a par meter, I was starving my corals due to lack of light. Even at max power and 10” above the water I was barely getting 200 par 6” under the water. So now the bleached ones are starting to get some color back. So maybe I went a little overboard on the lights. Lol It is worth it though. I have the entire tank covered, at every angle, with blue and UV without my main lights on.
I know there are reviews on the Photons already, but they are great lights! Much better than the Bozily lights! Haha The remote is pretty easy to use. Very touchy, but it’s nice to not have to use my phone to control the lights. Setup is pretty simple for ramp up and down. Just wish there was a computer app that you could build your schedule and send it or upload it to the lights and make small adjustments with the remote. I have them mounted about 13” above the water, but still have 250 par in the middle and about 200 par 8” left and right at about 55% peak on the main channels. I may have to just raise them up more and increase the intensity. However, I am almost as high as I can get with the cables they sent in my hood. I will have to figure something else out if it becomes a problem. Finally, the disco. Lol When I had them down at 7-8” above the water it was definitely there. Now, not so much. After adding the LumenBars, pretty much nonexistent.
