Luna Reef Filter Basket

@docscorals - "I think 2. That will give me three workable compartments. Top for floss, middle for media, and I can place biomedia on the bottom."

Ask for three and you'll get three. Do you want them spaced out equally? (I would advise against this as it will only give you three compartments that will be about 1 2/3".

Since the overflow section of their rear is 7 3/4 inch high and the bottom of the weir draining the display to the overflow is at 6 inches, if we make the top of the first shelf so it is 1/4 inch below that it should provide just enough depth for filter floss, I think.

That would leave 5.5 inches to divide between the other two sections? Am I thinking about this right?

Yes, mostly. I'd give it 3/8" below if it's 1/4" filter floss. That gives you just under 5.5" (5 & 3/8") with (3) 1/8" shelves gives you approximately 2.5" of usable height per shelf. And still has the bottom in front of the weirs for your bioballs or any larger media you wanted to use. I'd avoid using bagged media down there just because they can have a tendency to plug up and then they'd potentially block the lower weirs.

Perfect

No, it does not leave 5.5" to divide. The reason is that the feet on the bottom of the container need to be taken into account.

Since the bottom weir from the 1st chamber to the 2nd chamber is 1.5" tall then the legs need to be at least that tall. I would recommend making the legs 1.75" tall. This will leave about 4.25" of space for the 3 shelves.
