Order some lyretail anthias (female). The origin was labeled from Fiji but the color and morph came in out of my expectations.

I suppose the Fiji lyertail should be all orange? But these two look pinkish and the big one has a longer spine on the fin.

any ideas if I got the female anthias or they are not from Fiji?

Thx!

Those look exactly like mine - and like you - no idea what they 'really' are! Following!

I was told the spike is now the male. I have 2 - neither had the spike for the first month or so.
Edit - the male is now the worst offender of agression in my tank.

Both mine look similar except for the bigger one has a slightly longer spike but not as long as the male picture that I can find from internet.

I don’t mind where it came from actually just since will buy the third I don’t want to have two female with one male lol

I do get a kick out of the male making the female sit certain places. He'll put her where he wants her and check back frequently to ensure she stays! :zany-face:

These do better with with multiple females. I was actually supposed to have more, but dude at LFS dropped the ball and didn't order them right - and of course now he's telling me he can't get this certain one...keep waiting.

This... If the fin is developing, it's transitioning.

I have a now male dispar that did the same with a small harem of female lyretails.

Before (pre transition dispar)

End result, male dispar!

Also, since you only have 2, 1 will become the dominant and move to male. The spike on mine took probably 2 months to get fully grown.
I guess I’ll just wait til one fully become male and get another female so I have a trio! Do they turn back female if i have introduced another more aggressive male?

Idk if that is a dispar anthias looks like a transitioning lyretail, but im not the best with anthias id
It's a male now in my case, the fin grew in over a few months. It started out as a female when I dumped it in with the 3 female lyretails I had @ the time.

P.S. I never said it was a lyretail, it is a dispar... I have 3 female lyretails with a now male dispar. I have had male lyretails, coloring is much darker typically. That's under a LOT of white light.

I am not sure - I ahve been told multiple males will fight it out, but I also read that somwtimes it is posible for a 2nd male to submit and stay (i guess) undetected. So who knows - I am not an expert!

I think your dispar is actually a lyretail anthias as well.

Dispar Anthias or Madder Seaperch Anthias | Pete's Aquariums & Fish's Aquariums & Fish
Redfin Anthias, male - Nemanthias dispar | (EN) Redfin Anthi… | Flickr

isnt this a male dispar?
Your right. I've been living with it being a dispar. Coloring was always off from the 3 females I've had before it was added! I assumed it was different, as it didn't come out of a lyretail tank. I figured maybe a different region or even some flavor of hybrid.

May of been lyretails from different parts of the world? The coloring always had me assume different species. Two of the four pictured in the vid. The more orange one transitioned. You can see the fin developing on it. Either way, I learned something new! Sorry op to hijack your thread!

these pinker ones remind me of something like the ignitus anthias or maybe carberryi even. Anthias and wrasse I am not great with though, too many in the hobby are easily confused
