Lyretails and dispars

Hey,
So I recently ordered a small group of dispars 1 male and 6 females...
One of the females is actually a lyretail.
I originally was going to rehome her and just keep a group of dispars.
My wife really likes the lyretails it seems..

Is it possible to keep a small group of both?
Would the a male lyretail and male dispar fight?

Say 1 male dispar 5 females
And 1 male lyretail and 2-3 females?

Tank is my 135 gallon 60x25x24in tank

I have multiple groups of Anthias, lyretails , dispars, fatheads, bartletts, red bar, pink square, blotchy. From time to time, they chase each other but nothing bad ever comes of it.

240g, 8 foot. Key with Anthias is you need to have lots of rock work they can hide in-both during the day to get away from other fish and go sleep in. They sleep in the rocks and many times in really weird positions.

Do you think two of those size groups would suffice in my size tank?


And yes the sleeping position are weird they are almost laying sideways in my observation tank.

Second what do you feed?

Seems mine really like PE calanus and reef nutrition's artica pods and fish roe

Yes, I think you’d be fine provided you have enough rock work.
I feed everything and they eat it all. Mysis, brine, pellets and flake. They even eat pieces of nori and romaine that I feed for my tangs. They are def not picky.

I got them from Dr Reef and they were very healthy he does good work.

He will even send a few extra if you say its okay. I got 3 extras unfortunately 2 of them died after acclimation in the tank. They do not ship well it seems and he knows that thus sending the extras.

Good luck I have both in my tank they get along great apart from the lyretail male who shows minor aggression nothing major just that hes in charge of the group

There is the initial crew I have since added more lyretails.

I have 2 Huchtii and 1 lyretail. But been seeing how hard it is to get healthy Anthias. I lost 5 out of a possible 8 between doa and QT. But I have seen the many success post about Dr. Reef. Sucks they don’t ship better and uronema. They look so great in your tank.

The only ones that will beat on others, even new additions of their own kind, are the bartletts.

Are your redbars aggressive? Mine are jerks! They are medium sized.

Eh nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve noticed that virtually all Anthias will chase each other. Don’t know what they expect to happen if they were to catch up to the guy they’re chasing. That’s why having plenty of rock work and places to hide is key. They get chased, go into the rocks and the chase stops. Come out 1 minute later and are ignored like nothing happened. Fish are dumb.

Dr Reef will reimburse you of any losses within 3 days. He probably wont reimburse any extras.

I have a theory that they are really susceptible to low oxygen and/or High DOCs due to their fast metabolism. An efficient oxygen delivery is crucial to fuel that kind metabolism. Thus they don't ship well due to their nature of using all the O2 in a small bag.

TLDR
Not sure what happened just croaked. My ammonia was a tiny bit high at 0.14 but nothing crazy and everyone else is fine but I did end up doing a 20% WC. Only symptom was open mouth death was quick. (seems like Asphyxiation)

Oddly enough my bartletts lives just fine with my group of 2 dispars and 2 ignitus. He’s definitely at least a submale but swims along with with the male dispar and the females.

Lyretail Anthias are some of the my favorite fish.

Yes dying with mouth open like that is a symptom of uronema. But being it was the only symptom we ruled it out

What are your favorite to see across the room? I feel like all them are pretty in their own ways but that doesn’t always translate in viewing pleasure

Bartletts. Colorful, schooling and always moving around.
