Has anyone on here kept this species before? Stumbled across one at my LFS who had no idea what it was. Figured $15 for a Lysmata wasn't a bad deal here in Michigan, and it looked cool, so I grabbed it. ID'd it once I got home. Really neat shrimp with yellow legs and yellow stripes on the tail. So far it seems pretty bold, hasn't really gone into the rockwork to hide like peppermints do. Behaving more like a blood shrimp imo.

I have a suspicion you got Camel shrimp, which is not reef safe and will nimble on your coral. Does it have a "hump"?

Its a variety that are typically refered to as "cleaners". In the wild they are associated with cleaning stations on the reef. Hopefully reef safe but not a bunch of reef tank experiences documented.

Definitely not a camel shrimp. It is Lysmatella prima. Apparently Lysmata is the old name for it.

It's a cleaner species

Looks like you could be the one to document it. Not much on the World Wide Web. Really cool looking, crapshoot on reef safe. Would be hard not to blame it for any damage. Would really have to watch to see if it picks things to death, and not picking on something already on its way out.

I don't have corals, so not much of a problem for me. It went into the tank I'm building for butterflyfish and angels
