In my refugium I have chateo and halimeda growing very well. 2 days ago I saw this. It seems to grow about a 1/2" a day. At first I thought it was another halimeda but the stalk is much thicker and the sections are much bigger. Any ideas

The more I look at I also believe it's halimeda. I just grew to that size in 3 days. None of the other halimeda grew that fast and it's larger than all the rest. I'll keep my eyes on it. I looked this morning and I hadn't gotten any bigger. I suppose the white part on the top will green up and another section will start to grow.

Look at all the species of Halimeda.

Then within one species, look at all the formae (f) and varaiants (var), which basically means, there are crazy variations of the look all over the place.

Thanks everyone for the help. I will concur, it 's a variation of halimeda. I looked a lot closer at the sand bed are there are 5 more that I can see coming up. Thanks again.
