Hi everyone, I’d like to share my personal experience about magnifica anemone and lighting.
A year ago I did a post about that giant magnifica that I bought, which had a bacterial infection and was bleached. Due to laws in Canada I couldn’t get my hand on Cipro (usually used to treat sick Mags) so I tried with Azithromycin which, worked well. Here’s the link to that post : https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/m...ment-with-azithromycin.1061976/#post-13597293
Since the treatment I did a zooxanthellae transplant (thanks to the bubble tips from my other tank for those tentacules sacrifice) which helped the nem color up in a few weeks.
Here we have a pic of that nem 10 months after treatment, lost a bit of size (when it was bleached) and coloring up.
A month after that picture (while I was away per usual) one of my Kessil a360we decided that it’s time had come so 1/2 the tank got the night treatment for 2 days (luckily it still had some spillage over it) so I saw a 48 inch cheap T5 fixture on marketplace and decided to buy it for a temporary replacement (in the worst case) and if I liked it well I would keep it. So we’re now 1 month in and ….
I’ve never seen that anemone stunning like that, the tentacles have grown longer, thicker, it’s stretching more, not reaching to the top of the tank.
For reference, it was blast by a Kessil a360we + a white beam and would seem to move a lot looking for something. Now with the T5 it went for the high flow area since the T5s offer an even light spread. (Bulbs have been changed since I bought it)
Maybe the T5 heat also provides a more sun like feel to the anemone and helps it reduce stress… hard to say it won’t tell me.
So in my case, T5 were the missing ingredient to full success in my opinion, so I decided to share that experiment with you all and hope that it may help! I’m curious to hear other Mags owner on their opinion about light, maybe mixing LED and T5 you get the best of both worlds.
Let me know!
