Still thinking of ways to make an aesthetically pleasing frag tank. Maybe just building a shelf/tree out of flat rock, then drilling for frags? Or use the the frag plates instead of plugs? Anyone do this or have examples?

I haven't seen this, but other than potentially being harder to remove the plugs (especially with coralline growth) - it would look pretty cool. Kind of like if the Flintstones did a frag tank. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Here is one of two I made from dry flat-ish rock I had. It has magnets from Avast Marine and sticks to my back glass.

First they fit in quite snugly as I carved out their spots fitting as I went. Then I used super glue gel mixed with the dust I got from carving and drilling the rock up. Last I super glued on little rock pieces to hide the magnets fully.

I used to prefer the disks untill I added a couple of urchins and snails. Now the frags end up on the bottom. The ones with plugs stay put

A masonry bit from Lowes that was closest in size to the frag plugs I have. Frag plugs vary more than I thought before doing this.

Did you have any chipping or cracking? I used some old wood working bits, they worked ok as long as I slowly went up in but size. . . But still cracked/split a few rocks

I'll bet hubby has an impact driver.

Chuck this guy in it and you're off to the races.

His concern was that whatever he has would destroy smaller rocks. I'll compare to see. Thanks!
