I’ve used it before and I was blown away how fast it cycled and how few issues I had with filtration after that! Last tank cycled in 7 daysPersonally I preferred the cans but I suppose the kessils will do alright getting closer!
I'm a big fan of Dr. Tim's and any bacteria supplement really so I can vouch that it definitely works as advertised, it was how I started my reef
Look at what just showed up at my door!!!
So I just installed them really quick, to try it all out. Over the next day or two I’ll tidy up all the wiring, and daisy chain the two into my Kessil spectral controller. Still waiting on the stands wood work. Aperently my good friend who’s doing the work, is backed up with other projects at the moment. So I’m patiently waiting.
Also was happy to receive a bottle of Dr.Tim’s “One & Only” for reef tanks. I’ve used this in the past and have had a cycle kick of in 7 days if not sooner. Great stuff.
Nope no controller! I don’t see the need at this point. Just more wires and complication.Very nice can’t wait to see this tank get wet ! Are you going to install a controller Maple Reef ?
Hopefully Sunday or Monday. All depending on cure times for epoxy and if I run into any issues. Im off for the next five days so u can bet this is high on my to do list!Very sleek, I love it! When is it getting wet??!
I wanted to stay with natural wood and gloss white for the overall look......Just read your thread.
Nice looking tank and setup overall. Love the black and white theme you got going. Will look nice with the wood too.
You going to stain the wood, keep it natural or paint it?
You have something I want for upgrade. Want the light just not happy about their current setup. Should be single plug or a LEAST on the same side. What you did is how it should come. DIY on a new fixture that costs ~$300 is not something we should have to do.
I used Dr. Tim's One and Only in my new tank and it worked great. No spikes whatsoever.

I don't think these knock off Kessils will work very well [emoji23]I did yes, both banks are fed from one cord I ran the connection at one side, by drilling holes through the fixture and passing the electrical cord through and using the wire strain plugs to secure it. And then up through the top and out. It looks like it was meant to be this way. I’m toying with the idea of building my own fixture in the up coming year. Something less table top looking and will hold 4 t5’s and two kessils.
The attached images u can see how I ran the paralleling power cord.
