Maroon pair

I just got in a pair of maroon clownfish that were paired by the vendor. They are going at it like WW3. Is this normal behavior even after going through the pairing process? It started pretty much as soon as they were introduced.

Are the two maroons the same size? They should be noticeably different sizes.

One is just slightly bigger. I'm thinking that may be the problem but the aggression is surprising given they were supposed to have been paired up. Especially with who the vendor is.

In a pair one has generally become dominant. However moving them may cause a disruption.

Maybe put one in an acclimation box. I've had deaths trying to pair smaller maroons. I ended up letting one transition to female then add the smallest male I could find. I also prefer to have them from different parents. Its probably not an issue but pairing from the same clutch always felt wrong to me since its inbreeding even tho most will never raise them.

Mine will be aggressive randomly. But they work it out. Just like people lol. I wouldn't touch them unless see noticeable bad damage to either one.

Right now it's just some fin damage. I'm hoping it subsides in a couple days and they pair up. I've been talking to the vendor and they said thy have seen this happen only 3 or 4 times.

Unfortunatly dealers sell paired clownfish that are just a pair and not really paired,espeically if they are close in size.... if they were pairs they would not be fighting, .

There is another thread on pairing maroon. I give the same advices here. This work for me 100% of the time and there is a LFS owner that swear by this method. There got to be significant size differences, the larger the better. Then you have to have the two together but the smaller one in a container where he is fully visible but cannot get beat up. This have to be a prolong period of time, at least >2 weeks. Then you can release under observation. Prepare to put him back in protection if things turn sideway. The LFS I am taking about use one of the floating isolation ball and just leave the male in there. I use a secure acclimation box. What kind of isolation box does not mater as long as he is immerse in that tank, but protected. The important factor here is LONG periord of time. A few days isn't enough most of the time.
