What powerheads are you using? Do you have any detritus traps in your sump?

Sorry, for some reason i never saw the notification of your response. I am using jebao slw-20 on one side and jabeo wavemaker scp-100 on the other, they are set in pulse mode and kept at around 40%. I do have poly in the filter cup and then a sponge in the baffles before the return. The water has cleared up but I still see floating stuff. It might be from the nori sheet that I have in the IM gourmet gadget grazer.
