Hello!

I bought a used Maxspect SK400 skimmer and I have some troubles with it. When i run it at low speed (lower then 50%) it dosent produce much bubbles but only push water trough the neck and a small bubble crown at the top.

When I runt it at higher speed over 70% it dose produce more bubbles but I dont think its performing as it should. And on top of that it sounds terrible.

I have run the skimmer a few weeks and tried adjusting gate valve and tuned the dc pump but I think its something wrong with it. I have cleand it and I cant see any damage on it.

The tank is one and a haft year old and my old dc skimmer performed much better. Both P and NO3 is rising when I installed this new skimmer.

I have attached two files that shows how it looks and sounds.

Anyone have a similar skimmer that can confirm that this is not how it should perform or sound. Or any help at all is much appreciated!

I think there's a leak in the water level valve, I can see it dripping. I have the same skimmer and yours does seem to be faulty. Have you taken the pump apart? If you don't know how look for "maxspect duo maintenance" on youtube. One last thing to check are the venturi's.

looks like the needle wheels need a good clean. I find they get clogged up quite quickly and I have to clean mine every few months with a toothbrush. There also does seem to be a drip from the wheel that adjusts the water level. Might need replacing or fixing.
