I feel for you guys that can't do anything with your gas guzzlers other than keep on driving them because no dealership will take them.
There are alternatives though if hybrids are too small for your needs. I drive a manual Honda Element. It gets 26-31 mpg and has 77 cubic feet of storage space. I got it new for $19,500.

I could get rid of mine, I am not in the hole on it. But, I would not consider looking for another vehicle. I also have a BMW that my wife drives and it gets 28+ miles per gallon. I absolutely hate driving a car. I feel unprotected and like I am setting on the ground.
Anytime the both of us are gong some where we always drive the truck.

Thankfully I am not stuck driving an SUV, that is my wife's preferred vehicle. Way too big for me, I much prefer my smaller car to zip around in. I also find it amusing that people now adays can't seem to get by with anything but an SUV if they have kids. Makes one wonder how folks in the 60s and 70s got by!

Did anyone notice the info yesturday about Russia?? They have deployed one of their largest war ships "Peter the Great" and a nuclear sub to venezeula(sp?). They say they are doing it because we supported Georgia in the black sea with some of our ships. V.putin also stated Russia had been out of the region for way to long!! SCARY!!! does anyone remember a little thing called the cold war??

In the 60s and 70s all of the larger families had station wagons. Jack a station wagon up, put in a transfer case for four wheel drive and you have an SUV. But the station wagons got much worse gas mileage than an SUV.

Very interesting! I am going to look into Russia deploying a war ship. I have not read anything about it yet. This could cause many bad situations.

Did anyone see the latest interview from Palin on CBS News? Katie Couric asked her what she reads for info and Palin couldn't name one specific source when asked. She was supposedly a Journalism major and can't name one newspaper or magazine? She was also asked to name a supreme court case other than Roe vs. Wade. Once again, she couldn't. This is not a person who can represent us to the rest of the world. I'm not sure I believe she really went to college.

in the eve of an election, you can't believe what you hear, read or see. every newspaper, tv show, radio program is biased, and if you base your vote on that biased crapola, you might as well be voting for who is the best looking.

i heard a mccain commercial today that said to vote for mccain. said obama and the dems haven't had one good idea to fix the financial problem, and you shouldn't vote for them, because they don't know what they're doing. i think it's kinda funny the stuff they're pulling to get elected.

also, i'm sorry, but this whole financial crisis is NOT a result of dubbya, this started before he got in. let's see.... who was in?..... oh yeah, clinton. wait, wasn't he dem? and you could probably track it back further than clinton.

it's a cycle. just like the lake levels, it's a cycle. what comes up, must come down. what goes down, will bounce back up.

Well said Salty.Even at the biggest dollar drop in history,the market correction is not a huge % loss.I remember hearing even before "bubba" or "Dubyah"that the american people would dig their own grave with too much ,too easy credit.I mean heck,people borrow money to :go to the movies,get gas,groceries etc.(credit card) and even invest in the stock market,so it wasn't a real investment to begin with.....

if you want to start pointing fingers at someone....you ought to point fingers at the folks that actually have power over economic dealings! that would be the Fed and Congress.....let us all remember that the president isn't legislative.....he's executive! he doesn't have the power to impliment a lick of policy! qall he can do is encourage the legislative brance to do something....and either approve or deny what they come up with.....and even if he vetos, they can override him! The president is just the poster boy! the congressional fall guy!

To me....voting for congressmen and congresswomen (would the PC term be congresspeople?) is way more important pertaining to the economy than the president! OI'm still finding out why the economy is the #1 issue for the president....he hardly has any control over economic policy!!! The one thing that he does have power over.....supreme power....is the military! The president IS commander-in-cheif of the military! and personally, I believe that that job ought to have military experience as a prerequesite!

but this thread isn't about the president, so I'l spare you the rest of my thoughts on that matter!

I have to agree with saltysteel that we ought not pay attention to much of anything the reporters and commenters say about any of the candidates! They all twist the words and the facts to either proove their personal beliefs or to sensationalize what is happening to raise ratings! that is why the media have gone from the most respected folks in the community to some of the most despised!

From my experience in Iraq, I have seen just how horrible the media covers things! The only network that I could stand for more than 5 minutes was FOX......and even they didn't really paint an accurate picture of what was going on! Heck, CBS had an embedded reporter attached to us that did a piece as did time magazine.......after seeing and reading what they wrote, I was positive that I must have been in a different place than them!


controversy sells......death and distructiuon sells.......the media isn't around to educate us....they are here to sell us news! you might as well get your information from the national inquirer!
