Megabite's 180 Reef - Round 2

I did that alot when putting analytics together. Putting the latest numbers first (where I wanted the focus) and progressed historically to the right. I'm an odd duck that way.

I also hold/ eat my burgers that way too. Fingers on the bottom and thumb on top.

I bet those who read this post put an imaginary burger in your hand and checked how this would work for you.

When eating a burger one handed while driving, it was the only way from keeping it's contents off my shirt and lap.

Misbehaving acros.

So these 2 acros were placed far enough apart for growth. But, the one on the right decided to grow out from the bast into the other acro. Currently, they aren’t touching but only 1mm to 2mm apart at the tips.

Do I let them do their thing or intervene? I will also include a top down shot shorty for better perspective.

Thanks for the suggestion and was hoping not to do this as both are VERY encrusted. I will likely have to in the end.

I will regrettably get my fragging tool ready. It’s going to be complex, so precision in the cutting will be paramount.

Still hard to tell from this picture, but I will likely have to remove the entire back colony and reattach someplace else. Hope I don't damage it too much.

This is a vid from a month ago. It's grown quite a bit since then. I will try and pry it out and see if I can get most of it but a bunch will stay on the LR. Thanks for the suggestions all.

Mission accomplished. Well, I hope so.

I didn't breakout the chainsaw as previously planned and used a pocket knife and bonecutter. I was able to remove the rock so it was pretty simple. Most of it came out in one piece and re-glued nearby to keep the lighting and flow consistent with where it was. Other than they being a little upset, I think it worked out.

Good morning all. I had a little time this morning to see what kind of growth if any from one week to another on the Aquadelight. To my surprise there was some that can clearly be seen. I really didn't think there would be.

Being a reef geek, I figured I'd share.

Photo was taken on 4/9 and 4/16. Seven days apart.

Heck yeah, looks like stuff is thriving! Had to be the pH bump... for sure, thats it and nothing else. lol

Dang, looks like the deed is done. They will be happier and you will be able to get better full sized balanced growth out of them now, they were a bit close together. BUT, this will happen again. If you will allow me (and even if you won't) i will share my opinion there. I like to let them touch and fight it out. Most acros are pretty balanced and will come to a war of attrition, one will sloooooowly win, trim them both, but that one a little heavier. In other cases, i have some that will go full scorched earth and kill a full 1/4 inch perimeter of the other when they touch. I remember that for future reference and trim that one back the most aggressively.

Thanks Zack. I thought of doing just that, but since I had room and after looking more closely, it was an easy move. I will likely let others flight depending on the coral.

FYI - Torches don’t fight. They just win.
