I used red sea awhile back when I had my calcium reactor up and running and loved it. My new system is going to have a calcium reactor so I've decided that will be the salt I use for this system.

I was stoked to see free AB with the purchase of a bucket. I thought it was pretty cool that the new buckets have screw on lids too. "That'll be nice for rolling up the salt" ...right? Wrong! I removed the salt from the bag (mistake) and poured it back in the bucket. Screwed the lid on and rolled it around in the garage to mix up all the elements. Went to unscrew it......and no go! Its completely locked up. I'm guessing salt grains got into the threads and locked it up. I work in construction so my gribs pretty darn strong and I cannot get this thing to budge. Crazy how locked up it got.

Just a heads up to anyone who may have the same thought, mix it in the bag for sure! Thats what I used to do with the press on lids, should have stuck with that.

Unless you’re using it all at once, you definitly want to leave it in the bag... don’t want to let moisture in.

To be honest I’ve used the Red Sea salts including Coral Pro for nearly 3 years and I’ve never once mixed the salt up and have never had any issues

I just take the required amount out of the bucket and mix it up in RODI, no problem.

I see the logic why you do it, but I never have, and I’m guessing Red Sea mix it properly during production

Great heads up though for anybody doing this especially with the new screw tops.

Haven't seen the new buckets in my area yet. Do they have the rubber o ring seal? I use that style on all my buckets.
Not sure but I'll tell ya if I can get the dang thing off lol!

That's a good point. Setting up a 180 so it'll be used fast for startup.

I was the same and never had issues. Then I read certain elements like mag tend to settle to the bottom during shipping/transport so I started rolling them a bit. Normally in the bag but I'm always worried it'll tear.

Good to know it mixes as described.

Try a bottle opener or a shoe horn under the rim of cover. As others said- the bag actually allows preservation of the salt/minerals/elements and that monster known as moisture.
Get yourself a 1cup measure cup from dollar store and make that your scooper for salt. In fact I leave mine right in the salt bucket so that it is Not misplaced and someone does not use it to Make cake or cookies with butter and oil.

Thanks for the heads up. I was able to cut a piece of 3/4 pvc to fit in the top of the lid. Gave me a good place to grip and torque.

Lesson learned for sure! Salt mixed right up and quickly too. Very happy with it

I like the new screw tops also...no more tearing up my fingertips pulling that plastic strap. They definitely aren't meant as air tight lids though. Have to keep the salt in the bags :)

Just ordered my first blue bucket. I really like the buckets that seal but it won't take but a few seconds to put a twist tie on the bag.

Do you guys see much residue in your mixing container? I've had to clean my container pretty often with IO, Reef Crystals, Brightwell NeoMarine and Fritz.

the lid is a twist on the red sea blue bucket.. took me about 5 mins to get it off, as i have just changed to the red sea.
