You do.. the best of all worlds. Looks like they have dimmable units now

I went through the checkout process. You can order directly from their site. $840 USD for the 24". For what you get that isn't bad IMO.

Personally I think it's a bit much for a 24" fixture, but it's beautiful and will last as long as you take care of it. Big reflectors perform better and are a fraction the cost... but that's a well built piece of equipment that looks great

I'm not a zealot in any sense of the word. Well AFAICT.
I have prefernces but those are my preferences. I have my beliefs and ideas but not always right or any one elese. I still work at it.

All lights have their pros and cons. What is "best" is user de-fineable.

Anyways since you requested pretty pictures.
Sanjays Iwasaki vs the ocean spectrum chart.

I see you do lots of home work and research and are very active in every light thread! I appreciate that! Do you have first hand experience with all these lights on a tank and growing coral? Just curious…

I wanted the best lighting, full SPS coverage, without spending 5k in radions. Call me old and crusty but the only thing that I'm lacking with halide is the full spectrum LED artificial color pop. If an XR-30 was 1/2 the price, I probably would have my halides in storage. Spending 5k to light a tank isn't something that I'm willing to accept unless it's a jumbo system.

My sig kind of sums it up.
I may estimate things like par levels ect but refrain from saying " good for x, y and z"
At most id defer to others.
In other words just the physics not the husbandry.
Honestly..light is only one part in the equation anyways.
And probably not even the most important one.

Every part of the equation should be taken in consideration and with the attention to the efforts to achieve optimal results as a whole. Lighting IS indeed VERY important for the reef tanks we keep and therefore a VERY important part of the equation.
This is not the chemistry forum.
Wanna talk fresh water? I have more than 10 fresh water systems in my house at the moment. LOL!
Maybe you should change your signature a bit? I mean... just read it and think!

What didn't you understand about the feel free to ignore me part?
Reading comprehension issue?

My problem is that if I ignore you completely some people will think they can just blindly believe on those fancy graphics and the words you post. Then this new generation won't even have any opportunity to understand the real meaning of hands on!
Experience is the most important in reefing!
Results matter!
And therefore... I ignored your "feel free to ignore" part.

Please quote any sentence I wrote that was wrong. Verbatim..not your interpretation which is likely to have errors

Or any misleading graphic..

Ahh so you got nothing..

Btw..didn't even vote here..;)
Do you think voted? Nope! LOL!
One more thing... seriously... if you still really want to make that LED fixture for fresh water aquariums you should be among the fresh water keepers. You wanted to make that fixture so bad a while ago. Why don't you develop the system already!!! It would probably be a great fixture in the end.

Man, I hear that about vacuum tube tech! I don't have those in my sound system, but I DO run old tech because it's just plain better with music. I am running a 70s Radio Shack STA- 2100D receiver. Sixty (or so) watts per channel. Wonderful. Those RS receivers were great. A horribly underrated product. I started with an STA-95 (45W/channel when I was a kid). I have two of those I'm gonna have redone.
What makes them better?

The last one.. a "no white" experiment using PC Amber, Lime, Cyan, Deep red, Royal blue Luxeon Z leds..
Approx 15w per puck. Circuit board designed by me, reflowed by me.
3 versions 1 deep red centric, one cyan centric, one with a hint of violet

One w/ a violet one

Driver/controller custom built and custom programmed to include gamma dimming:

Older 200gal light. Refllectors not lenses.

200galcustomled.jpg

Customized Popbloom designed by me layed out by dsuny:
popbloomcustom2.JPG

Old an now no longer available Sorra 5400k violet based cob. Fresh fish cob and a 4000k 95cri Luminous devices cob for trials over a 55gal
55galpresent.JPG

Old customized reefbreeders. Needed a tweak. A bit too much cyan for the owner.:

First what I'd call my successful design. Still running on a 40 b 10 years later though most of the diodes have been replaced (quality upgrades w/ luxeon whites) about 7 years ago.
Simple frame. Its not rocket science.
