Magnetic ballasts will do the job but they have generally been superceded by electronic ballasts. They're heavier, less efficient and often noisier on start up.
They will work fine.. and probably last 30yrs at half the price of electronic. But you need the right ballast for the bulb you want to run. DE 250 watt needed m80.. not made anymore.. then for SE bulbs 250 or 400 you would need to know configuration of the bulb you want to use is pulse start or probe start and buy the correct ballast. Like M58 for instance. I do believe either the probe or pulse i don't remember which one.. will light both types of bulbs.
