Thanks for the heads up - I would have stuck with one idol if I did try one, I honestly don’t find them to look as nice in pairs
I agree. I instantly regretted buying more than one when I saw them together. I think it killed the “rare show-fish vibe”.

Since people like to read about the “ups and downs” of reefing…here are Dino pics (currently dealing with a small cyano bloom which is receding)

They do not look as bad as these pics anymore

the cause of this disaster was allowing my nutrients to bottom out during fallow.

For sure! My LFS has had multiple in over the past few months, they look nicer alone because they just have the Show piece vibe, I would pull the trigger but I have 2 fish lined up for my 4x2x18” tank already and then could only fit one other in - Most likely a wrasse and that would put my number of fish up at around 12 fish. I doubt I could fit a 2-3” idol in there.

Ohh. And since I’m in a mood of giving you guys ALL the updates…here’s my last batch of fish in QT: yellow tang (Hawaii) , powder blue, Midas blenny, and 2 small wrasses. They are nearly done!

This was one of the downs I had to face in my nano, it didn’t show in my 4 foot display though which I’m glad about!

I see one of the wrasses you have chosen is the Halichoeres hortulanus, also that yellow is a very nice size. For sure one of the nicest specimens I’ve seen!

Seems to be the Indonesian variant - IMO, it’s the prettiest out of the two variants (I have both the Cebu and Indonesian lubbocks, very pretty wrasse and I would say the Indonesian stays smaller by about .5”). I would say the Lubbock’s is my second favourite of the Cirrhilabrus wrasse and my third favourite overall wrasse!

I also just realised you went the Powder Blue route instead of the achilles route, its for sure easier to care for and although I still prefer the achilles, Powder blues are my second favourite of the Acanthurus tangs! For sure pretty and colourful fish, I hope yours gets along with the other group of tangs already in there.

Your attention to detail is immaculate!

I’ve been deciding between the 2 for months! Although the reefing community generally likes the Achilles, and it also has that cool “expert only” bragging rights…my heart kept going back to the powder blue.

I literally only chose the powder blue because I adore their coloration.

I doubt this powder blue will cause problems because it is one of the smallest tangs I have AND it’s added last!

So I’ve been struggling with particles in my reef tank for a few months. I never understood why it’s so visible now but it clicked that ever since I switched to the black background the tank looked kind of dirty..and smaller.

And I’ve been cleaning my background twice a month!

So I’m going back to blue. But I have these acrylic sheets custom made (black) that I’m expoxying the blue gradient I found. I think it’s going to come out really nice.

Yeah, I’ve realised I really do pay attention to detail. Even in an LFS I know which fish is where (Especially in my local one), so when the owner forgets which fish is where I always point it out after finding out the scientific name

Cant wait to see how it turns out! I find that black backgrounds make tanks seem more dirty but it’s just how you never see it with other backgrounds, I ended up letting hair algae take over the back wall of my nano so it doesn’t show the particles as much but also so that it can give the Blenny plenty of grazing chances!
