@djkms, I think you might have already shared this, but what's the secret behind those stunning pictures? Every time I try to take a photo of my tank, my phone seems to go blue-blind!

By the way, your tank is absolutely gorgeous, and I really admire your Apex automation setup. I know how challenging it can be—but once it's dialed in, it’s a lot of fun too!

Thanks. For the better pictures I use my Sony Mirrorless Camera, good lens, orange filter and shoot in RAW and adjust the colors in Lightroom. Most my shots are just done with my Note 10+ and orange filter though.

On the Apex side of things I have been using their controllers since 2007-2008ish if memory serves. I know the system pretty well but the problem is the more I use it the more "advanced" I can program it which really means nothing more than more tiles on my page to manage!

These are just the corals on one side of the peninsula. I will hopefully take pictures of the other 2 sides in the next week or so.

I also updated my fish list. I have 3 more fish coming from Dr Reef that didnt make it on my last shipment and were held back for further observation. Moorish Idol, Queen Angel and Emperor Angel. Hopefully they will be here in the next couple weeks. Hoping to have better luck with this Idol and Queen not being really bad nippers and the Emperor is replacing my Emperor who died a couple months ago. Not sure on cause...

I am hoping to do a video as well once my last 3 fish come in.

So I want to do an update regarding my mixing/water change station.

PXL_20250722_215203273.RAW-01.COVER.jpg

I recently had to move my barrels because they sit right underneath my AC air handlers which I recently replaced. So I decided to clean out my barrels and the salt one was pretty nasty. I should have taken a picture but I didn't.
Anyways the crud was coming from the caking agent(s) used with my Red Sea Blue salt. Kind of a nasty dark brown color. I was trying to figure out a way to keep the barrel clean so I wouldn't have to drain it completely to clean it.

I didnt get it completely clean but its good enough for Government work. I was thinking about putting a RO Sediment filter on between the output of the pump and the return going back into the top of the barrel. Then it dawned on me...

I have 5 micron filter socks laying around. So I just zip tied it to the top of the barrel and have the return draining into the sock. This is after 1 sock change and 2 days. Gross. But hopefully this keeps my barrel clean!

Tanks looking killer! I had mine setup the same way with flow but the sticks didn’t like the end view without high flow.. I ended up putting a couple vortecs on the viewing end and the tank was much happier! Just something to think about as the tank grows out! I wished I didn’t rush and put a closed loop on the end for that reason.. 🫤
