Mirror on the Tank for aggressive fish

I recently read on here (R2R) about putting a mirror against tank
as a way to deal with aggressive fish when adding new fish.

I tried it and it works very well instead of them being aggressive to the other fish
they pretty much try to chase off their reflections and leave everyone else alone.

It's a simple tip I wish I had learned long ago.

I have used this Several times with several different fish. it seems to work best on Tangs and my 6 line wrasse was always interested in his reflection.

I've used it with leopard wrasses, and it works like a charm. I actually still have the mirror on the glass, months later, and all my leopards (3 different species) are all fascinated by it. No aggression towards each other anymore.

I often find them all hanging out together, staring at themselves in the mirror.

Don't have a mirror but have been wondering if seeing its reflection and chasing it caused 1 of my wrasses 2 go terminal.

It works in most cases, however in a couple of rare cases it caused the aggressive fish to become hyper-aggressive, going after it's reflection as well as every other fish in the tank. In nearly all cases it worked as it should, but with a kole tang and a melanurus wrasse it went awry.

I left them on for a day and they seem to have mellowed out.

I ordered a couple of plastic mirror tiles for the next time I need them.

I've always read the same thing about mirrors helping. Tried it after introducing a CBB which highly irritated the yellow tang. I'm pretty sure I spotted the YT flipping off the mirror and continued to go after the CBB! Well, it was worth a shot.:mad:
