Montipora problem

My tank is predominantly sps,everything is doing fine except I am losing my red montipora.I am running ulns,what parameter would cause a problem with only this type of coral?

Potassium or possibly a pest such as Monti eating nudibranchs. Do you have any other monit's?

Yes I have others everything else is doing fine on the potassium is it too high or too low. I definitely do not have nudi

My red monti isn't bright red anymore. Kind of a lighter red color

If your red color is paling then I would say potassium is too low or you have a lighting issue. What lights do you run? Any tissue recession or just loss of color? Red Sea Coral colors B seems to help with red/orange colors if dosed properly. Red Sea also has a test kit for Potassium

Losing tissue , just checked and my potassium level is 390I am running T fives and a refried strep like I said everything else in the tank is doing perfectly

If your loosing tissue it could be definitely something other than Potassium then. Most likely an ALK swing or neighboring coral warfare.

Had not thought about the warfare possibility although it is sitting in the back of the tank I did raise my potassium another 10 I guess I'll hope for the best

Best of luck. Monitor your parameters daily for a while if possible. Heck even twice a day. Maybe increase flow in that area around the monti.

Can I have been running my alkalinity much lower than I used to but it's been steady down at around seven could that be an issue

I would say ALK should be around on the lower end 7.8 and up to 9.0 for the higher end. As for your nitrates 2-5ppm would be plenty. Not sure of this 70 that you speak of. I would say if it was 70ppm all of your corals would be having issues.

If your truly running ULNS be careful raising your alk too much . When running a ULNS you want close to NSW levels as possible.

I run my alkalinity from 9.5-11, and my red monti cap is growing like crazy. There was a point when the color was starting to pale...turned out to be too much lighting. I turned off the T5s and backed the Kessils down to 70%, and the Monti bounced right back.

Can you confirm you're earlier post that you're nitrates are really 70?

How is your phosphate? I wouldn't raise the alk if you are running ULNS. If everything in the tank is fine then it might just be one unhappy coral. If there is tissue loss you might want to cut away the dying tissue and see if that stops the receding. You cold also dip it after cutting away the dead part and put some crazy clue over the exposed skeleton to help ward off further problems.
